    I knew I had seen this used for average before. It was hard to find! But deep in the depths of Wikipedia, I found it: Ø or ⌀ is sometimes also used as a symbol for average value, particularly in German-speaking countries. ("Average" in German is Durchschnitt, directly translated as cut-through.)
