ATC over the North Atlantic
Things have changed a bit since I was a teenager... But the above bring up another point. I remember viewing a documentary re. an Air France flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris that went down in the Southern Atlantic. The A/P reveived two different readings from the Pitot tubes (one was frozen, didn't have heaters then). Not knowing what to do, it shutdown after sending ACARS to Paris. This means that Air France and Airbus knew immediately the cause of the crash but waited months until be black/orange box was found to explain what had happened. Have I got this right?

ATC over the North Atlantic
I can remember as a teenager (a long time ago!) listening from eastern Canada to flights over the North Atlantic. They used shortwave frequencies that varied based on time of day and time of year. I also sort of remember hearing flight over North Africa. What happens today? Can a/c communicate with ATC over the Atlantic somehow? ATC software simulates ATC in that area but I keep wondering if it's lying to me. Jean-Pierre Gagné

Add-ons.cfg vs Add-ons.cfg
I understand that there two of those and i understand how add-ons are added to either one. My question relates to performance. I recall reading somewhere that in one of these, all folders are scanned for changes each time P3D is started whereas this is not the case for the other one. This could be important where one has a large number of add-ons. I can't remember where I saw this, nor can I find it again. Can anyone confirm or infirm the above? Any help much appreciated. Airlines added at the end of AIRLINES.CFG
Good morning all, I keep finding airline names that have been added to the end of AIRLINES.CFG. The first name is added at the end of the last airline name, then the others are added after a CR/LF. The names contain a space after each character. Here's an example: ZULIANAe a s y J e t P M D G P M D G P M D G P M D G e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t e a s y J e t A i r C a n a d a R y a n a i r R y a n a i r P M D G B o e i n g B o e i n g R y a n a i r I use EditVoicepack but have not updated it in a long time. Is anyboby else seeing this? Does anyone have a cure? Thanks. Jean-Pierre Gagné

LNM & PRO-ATC & P3D
Hi Alex, Thanks for your response. I was afraid that would be the answer. It seems that I have two choices: inaccurate ATC or lack of detail for airspaces. Have a good day. Jean-Pierre Gagné

LNM & PRO-ATC & P3D
LNM can use airspaces from Navigraph and/or P3d. PRO-ATC uses whatever AIRAC has been used to update it. My question is What about P3D? What would be the corresponding AIRAC? I'm asking because when I use "Simulator" (i. e. P3D) in LNM, the messages from PRO-ATC are either frequently early or late, suggesting that the sources for both are different. If I select "Navigraph" in lieu of "Simulator", then I'm missing a level of detail. I just can't sort this out. Jean-Pierre Gagné

PMDG 777 Keyboard Rudder Control
Good morning all, I fly the PMDG 777 with keyboard and mouse. Controlling the rudder this way is totally erratic, at least in every way I have tried it. The problem is worse with the 737. PMDG will not look at the problem because thy say keyboard control is not part of the design. I can't believe that I am the only person on thsi planet that flies the 777 without a joy stick. Is FSUIPC the answer to my problem? I only understand partially the product, but it seems that it can perform magic for certain people. Else, what do others with a keyboard do to control the 777? Any input will be appreciated. Jean-Pierre Gagné

PRO-ATC/X Inflight Menu Problem
Hello, I'm having a problem with the PRO-ATC Inflight Menu. When I enter "1" or click on "1" the menu disappears and I have to display it again with the key defined in Options/Inflight. The Help manual mentions that this was a problem with P3D4 but it seems (in my case) that it is still there in P3D5 5.4. The solution in the Help file is to use a key combination other than Ctrl-0, but this doesn't work for me. The strange thing is that this doesn't happen in menus other than the first one. It also happens with keys 2 and 3. I can't submit this problem to the PATC Forum because I lost my password and got no response from support. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Jean-Pierre Gagné

Missing MSSTDFMT.DLL file
Good morning Ray, The first site did help. I did not have said DLL (I'm on Win 11). I got it from the second site you suggested, registered it and RC4 now comes up. As usual, thanks very much. Jean-Pierre Gagné (CYOW)

P3D ATC Information
Good morning Ray, I had wanted to try RC4 but found that it's no longer available. I would really appreciate a link. I'm new at this forum: what's a PM? Regards, Jean-Pierre Gagné (CYOW)

P3D ATC Information
Thanks for the thorough reply: you<ve given me a lot to think about. Any idea why only RNAV approaches are recognized? (I had gathered that from my testing) I am exploring all of this because I am trying to live with the default (and much maligned) P3D ATC. I did acquire PRO/ATC but found (amongst other weirdities) that it doesn't use airspace names (I think that's important) and setting up decent voices is a pain in the you-know-what. This is poor for a product that is fairly expensive. Regards, Jean-Pierre Gagné (CYOW)
