OK, so the WiFi signal in my room is pathetically weak and I am trying to strengthen it so I can use my Virtual CDU's with my ipad.
Here goes, so please bear with me:
Living room has my router (Cisco EA4500), and I have a cable running from that (in the wall) to my room for two pc's (linked through d-link DES-1008D 8-Port Fast Ethernet Desktop Switch), and have a Cisco RE1000 range extender.
I cannot place the extender in a strategic location as my 2 year old boy is in the adventurous phase, so it is useless in this case.
Is it possible to connect the extender to the Ethernet switch in my room (cat 6? / "blue cable"?) to get a strong signal that would then give me a strong WiFi signal?
If so, how do I do so when it comes down to the software?
I tried, and the network map shows it next to the 2 pc's on the left hand side feeding from the switch.
I do not really know what to do next to get it to send out the signal as an extension from the router.
Sorry for this mess of a salad presentation, but that is the extent of my knowledge.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
P.S. I tried to find the info online, even though my search queries were probably worded wrong, and found nothing of help.
