Hi all,
As some of you may know Imagine Sim has just released KCLT Charlotte Douglas for FS9 and, as my credit card has had a chance to cool down recently, I decided to go for it. First impressions are that it is a very good scenery addon although not quite up to the excellent standards of Fly Tampa or the other handful of other developers who are setting the gold standard for FS9 now. Nevertheless it is clear that Imagine Sim are upping their game and the resultant product is a very nice addition to FS9.
The airport buildings are all well modelled and as are buildings on the various UPS, FedEx, GA, NC ANG, etc aprons. There is plenty of vehicular and other ramp equipment autogen provided although it should be pointed out that this all appears to be static, unlike the autogen provided by a lot of other developers these days. The well modelled multistorey car garages beside the terminal and the car parks around the perimeter all contain an abundance of 3D parked cars and the whole ground area within and just outside the airport perimeter is covered with quite good photoreal ground textures which blend in well with the associated autogen particularly when overflying the airport from 500 feet or higher. In addition there is a reasonable amount of autogen buildings and vegetation provided around the immediate perimeter of the airport which always adds to the sense of realism achieved and which I like to see developers including.
Overall I am glad that I bought this scenery as it is of good quality and fills a gap in my major US airports. I would have to say however that I feel the purchase price is a little on the high side particularly when you consider that you only get the FS9 version and if you want the FSX version when it is released you will have to fork out more (compare this with the latest release from Fly Tampa - CYUL - which, for a similar price, includes versions for FS9, FSX amd P3D!). Still it is good to see that Imagine Sim remain happy to produce for FS9, suggesting that they feel that there is a market out there and this in itself seems to contradict the argument put forward by other developers that the FS9 market is not viable! It seems that this dinosaur is not yet extinct!
