December 3, 201213 yr We started to send a PM yesterday to everyone which is repeated here. Some who received it interpreted it to mean that we were accusing them specifically of copyright violations. That was NOT specifically addressed to a single individual or individuals, but as below, intended to be a general reminder to everyone. After it became clear that some were interpreting it as a specific message to them, we cancelled the PM distribution. Most of you did not receive that PM and that is the reason we are repeating the reminder here. THIS IS A GENERAL REMINDER TO EVERYONE.. PLEASE READ... We are seeing more copyrighted material being placed in the forums of AVSIM. This is in direct violation of our Terms of Service and everyone registered in our Forums is receiving this PM as a reminder. Here are some examples of copyrighted material that WILL NOT be placed on or in AVSIM's systems: Entire "cut and pastes" of news articles, posts from other sites, etc. Images uploaded to or embedded in forum posts from any other site than your own AND which you OWN, or have written permission to use . Example; images from AIRLINERS.NET, cartoons from the Washington Post, etc. What is allowed? Excerpted material. That is, a small bit of a post or news article which you reference in your message. Excerpting is allowed under copyright laws and is allowed here. Excerpting is NOT wholesale copy and past; it is a short bit of material which acts as a reference to your own material. Or, if you wish to cite the entire article, provide a link (URL) to it. AVSIM's system will open another window for that destination to appear in. Links to images; not embedded images, but the URL to the image at another location, IF THAT OTHER LOCATION ALLOWS LINKING. Again, this is not providing an embedded image in your post, but a URL link to it that a fellow member can click on and follow. Conversely, AVSIM's content is also copyrighted. Please do not copy and paste from AVSIM to other locations, unless you own the material Very simply stated, if you do not own the material, image, etc. OR you do not have specific permission to use that material, image, etc., do not post it. Copyright violation is a serious matter, and people who violate our Terms of Service put AVSIM in jeopardy as well as themselves. Those who continue to violate our ToS' will be shown the door.
