The Pipers Come "Home"

Featured Replies

For some, it is the dream of a lifetime. for others, it is something that every plane lover has to experience at least one time. And for the rest, words can't express the feelings they have as they walk among the hundreds of planes that descend to their "home".The annual Lock Haven Fly-In, which is known as "Sentimental Journey" began on Wednesday June 19, at the William T. Piper Memorial Airport in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and will last through June 22. I live only 25 miles from the airport and every year at this time I spend as much time as I can there watching the vintage Piper aircraft coming home. Pilots from all over the United States make the annual journey here to share the nostalgia of the Fly-In. Even though they come from many different areas, the reason for making the journey is the same: to come and see the home of the Piper Cub and Piper Aircraft. Some are so moved by the experience it brings tears to their eyes. One "first timer" from Forida expressed that he had been grinning ever since he got on the ground. It is a breathtaking sight seeing these vintage planes circling the airport in the beautiful mountains of the Central Pennsylvania Susquehanna Valley and I wouldn't miss it for anything. This year, the 2002 Fly-In should to be one of the best ever. With weather forecasters predicting a nice weekend with temperatures reaching the high 80's, plane turnout is expected to be high. As many as 600 aircraft could be parked here promising a very exciting weekend. I wish you all could be here.Ray
