I completely agree with FlyingsCool. Just what was wrong with the old layout. I find this layout much too cluttered and confusing. I think I'll have to get my flightsim news elsewhere.

Ultimate Defrag Yes or No?
I've use both O&O and Ultimate Defrag and personally I prefer Ultimate Defrag. It give me much more options on how I want my hard drive drfragged. Just make sure you review all the options it offers. The latest version is especially effective.

ILS at KORF
I'm probably capturing the IORF backcourse as you suggested. I had suspicions that's what the problem was from the action of the aircraft, but I didn't know how to remedy it. I wasn't aware that the backsourse could be disabled with ADE. I'm using Ray Smith's ADE for KORF. I've modified it with ADE and turned off Enable Backcourse for both localizers. I'll make another flight later today and post my results. Thanks for the suggestion!

ILS at KORF
Situation: On instrument approach to KORF Rwy 23, nav1 tuned to approach frequency 109.10. As soon as I intercept the ILS, my plane spins around 180 degrees and heads in the opposite direction away from the airport and starts to nosedive. The only way I can land the plane using the ILS is to do it manually. Is this because RWY 5/23 has the same instrument approach frequency for both ends of the runway? If so, how do you use the ILS in this situation?

Help needed with flying default learjet
I did a little experimenting and I figured out what is causing it to "float". It's the spoilers. If I don't deploy the spoilers, I don't get the floating. It takes a little longer to slow down, but at least I don't run out of runway. I 'll have to try deploying the spoilers AFTER reverse thrust and see if that makes a difference.

Yup, that's just the way I do it and the learjet will raise it's nose and float every time I apply reverse thrust. Doesn't happen with any other jet, just the lear.

Help needed with flying default learjet
I have trouble with reverse thrust in the learjet. After touchdown, I deploy the spoilers and as soon as I apply reverse thrust, the nose lifts off the runway and I float. Sometimes it floats for so long, after I touch down again, there isn't enough runway to stop on. The learjet is the only aircraft that does this.

I tried this out and it just kept crashing while sitting on level pavement before I even tried to drive it. I never did get to try it out...wouldn't stop crashing. If I turned crash detection off, it just bounced and rolled all over the tarmac spitting sparks. I'm using it with FSX SP2 in Windows XP. I was at Catalina on the tarmac. I was anxious to try it out since it looks just like the Wrangler I have IRL. :(

FSX Effects Question
My steam effect is very similar to your effect except the steam is a little more dense as is typical of power plant cooling towers. It has a central column of steam with a swirling haze around it.I'll have to recheck the coding to determine if I can improve the performance of the effect.

FSX Effects Question
I normally run FSX with most of the sliders at or close to max and I get 25-30 fps in the area I'm using to test the effect. Even with the heavy htters cut back to minimum, I still get the effect stopping and restarting the same as when the sliders are maxed. I've noticed the same thing with the default shore waves and several others have posted the same problem. It has always been chalked up to the low priority of .fx files in FSX. I never experienced this problem with FS9. In fact, I used an .fx file in FS9 I developed that was very similar to the one I'm presently testing in FSX and experienced no problems whatsoever. If there is indeed no way to change the priority of the fx files, I guess I'll just trash my file. The whole visual is ruined by the stopping and starting and I'd rather not have the effect at all than have something that looks so unreal.

FSX Effects Question
I worked at and presently live near a power plant and I can safely attest that the steam from the cooling towers rises several hundred feet into the air. My .fx file is set to have the steam rise 450 feet before dissipating. I used the default fx_Steam_Lrg.fx file to model the effect and just tweaked the numbers to make it larger. BTW the default effects react the same way...stopping whenever new scenery is loaded. I suspect that's why the chimney smoke and steam effects were not included in FSX default scenery as they were in previous versions. My steam effect has no noticeable effect on framerates. The only problem is it reacts like the default wave effects on the shores. Whenever new scenery reloads, the effect is stopped and restarted again. With the waves, since the effect loop is so short, it doesn't cause too much concern. With my steam effect, since it is continuous, it's annoying to have it only last a few seconds and then restart whenever new scenery is loaded.I developed the same effect for FS9 and in that version, it worked perfectly, even at power plants that had four towers. The effect never stopped even while flying and scenery loading had no effect on it. I suspect that something was changed in FSX to give priority to loading scenery and put effects at the bottom of the ladder. I'[m hoping that someone knows how to change the priority back to the way it was in FS9.

FSX Effects Question
I've created an fx file for FSX to show the steam coming from the cooling towers at power plants. I'm happy with the effect I've made...it's nice to see the white steam billowing up into the clouds..., but it acts the same way that the wave action on seashores does, ie it stops and restarts every time new terrain is loaded since it's priority in the scenery eschelon is set so low. As soon as it rises a few feet from the towers, it stops and restarts. As a result, when flying, you never get to see the steam rising into the clouds because it has to restart so often. The effect works fine when you're sitting on the ground, it's only when flying that the problem occurs.My question is this: is there any way to alter either the .fx file or the generated .bgl file so that the steam effect will have a higher priority and not have to restart so often?

Special Effects SDK
Well, I figured out my problem. I normaly play in full screen and when you click on the FX tool, it opens in it's own window underneath the FSX screen. When I changed to windowed mode, the FX tool window opened on top of the FSX window. All is well now. :)

Special Effects SDK
When I click on the visual effects option in the Tools menu of FSX, nothing happens. How do you get to use the special effects SDK? I have no trouble with the traffic toolbox and object palcement options, but can't get the effects option to work. I have SP2 installed and the SP2 version of the SDK.

Remove EZ_Walccamera.
Open your Cameras.CFG and scroll down to the bottom. Delete the entry for EZ_Walk Camera.

Looking for a Program
Is there a program for FSX like AITM by Thomas Molitor for FS9? The FS9 version doesn't work with FSX. I miss having it since I used it to check flightplans for correctness. It was also useful for generating a timetable for a specific airport. I'd appreciate any help :)

Thanks for the reply, Nick. The reason I was trying to change it was I was trying to comply with your tutorial on the settings in FSX. According to your tutorial, I should set Mesh Resolution to 38 and Texture Resolution to max which is 7. How can I do that if they are tied together?
