July 2, 200322 yr Commercial Member Here are a couple of observations I made today and would like to share them with you:- It seems the APU fire handle on the pedestal does not function. After pulling it, the APU continues to run.- The IDG disconnect switches on the overhead don't disconnect the generators.- It is impossible to enter anything into the LEGs page when airborne and after the route has been cleared. Same happens if you take off with no ORIG/DEST filled out on the RTE page. Big problem as the FMC does not model missed approaches, thus will clear the route anytime you go around and as of that you no longer have the FMS available for navigation :-(-As described above, no waypoint can be added after the destination RW.-You can't move a PBD (place bearing distance) waypoint on the FMS. Not in database is the error message...Workaround: delete the waypoints before the PBD...-FMC and some other systems are very slow: it takes a while after the input is made visible. Example: activating the A/T. The switch doesn't move immediately and ARM doesn't show up on the PFD immediately. These things are important, as they give the impression that the simulation is "smooth" and fluid.-Switching off the APU will also move the APU bleed switch. Shutting off electrics will move the Window Heat switches.-Don't know what caused this: Used the loadmanager to set a ZFW of 52.3 t (B737-700). Entered this value into the PERF page, then flew into some slight turbulence (note, speed was around 20 kts above the red band) and the stall warning was activated. This happened quite often and the speed shown was still well above Vso.-The flap handles can't be moved when hydraulics aren't on.-The FMC displays the current winds on the ground.-Not sure about this one either: The glideslope warning is activated, when deviating ABOVE the glideslope. Thought this would only happen when flying below. Might be a 737-700 feature, though.-No stall protection in V/S mode. I believe the NG's and some classics (-300,-400,-500) had stall protection while being in V/S mode. Unique feature on the bobby. Don't know about the 777 though...-Not sure about this either: When CRZ level is below FL100, when transitioning to CRZ the aircraft will bust the 250 kts limit.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
July 3, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member New one:-After extending the speed brakes in the air (FLT detent), you can not retract them using the "/" key as it will try to extend them further.Workaround: Arming then de-arming the spoilers.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
July 3, 200322 yr "It is impossible to enter anything into the LEGs page when airborne and after the route has been cleared"HUH? You don't enter a route FROM the legs page, that's what the route page is for ;). Use the legs page for MODIFICATIONS. I have never heard of someone clear a whole route in flight? How can you build a route if you cleared you departure in flight? Are you checking FMC u10.5? Maybe you should use updated material to see what you can and cannot do with the fmc. July 3, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Randy."HUH? You don't enter a route FROM the legs page, that's what the route page is for ;). Use the legs page for MODIFICATIONS"Yupp, and I assume you tried this? Just how do you do this, as you can not enter a ORIG ICAO code, just a DEST ICAO code, and you can not access the second RTE page. So the LEGs page is the only page available...I'm not sure how the real system behaves, unfortunately. Are you able to enter a ORIG code, or just a DEST code? When exactly should the second RTE page become available?Should entry directly on the LEG page be possible?"I have never heard of someone clear a whole route in flight? How can you build a route if you cleared you departure in flight? Are you checking FMC u10.5? Maybe you should use updated material to see what you can and cannot do with the fmc."Hmm I detect a slightly negative tone in your post. Maybe you could back off a little and give people a chance to ellaborate. Owning CBT software or manuals doesn't directly indicate knowledge or experience!(Note, not everything is covered by CBTs nor manuals. Unfortunately :-) )Anyhow, imagine an entire loss of electrics (unprobable, but possible!). Or just a transient FMC failure requiring you to pull the CB's for the FMC's so that the FMCs are unpowered and lose the stored info. Not sure how long they can store the info without power, on the 767 it was something like 5 minutes I think. Anyways, after restoring power or FMC operation, you would have to reenter all the information. Then you are stuck with the problem I explained above.I noticed another thing, but not sure about this one:It seems that the GPWS warnings are a little too sensitive (the "TOO LOW, TERRAIN" and "PULL UP" warnings). Flying the RWY 28 VOR approach into LSZH resulted in a sink rate of approximately 1100 fpm and I had the warnings sounding the entire approach. Also, there doesn't seem to be a GPWS inhibit switch. (G/S, FLAP and GEAR inhibit)Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
July 3, 200322 yr Randy,Actually, the FMC clears the route if you "go-around" is what he meant, I think. On a "GA" you would normally have an MAP entered in the FMC. If not, you would need to enter it. You would do this in the legs page, possibly? What is FMC u10.5?Best,Bill
July 3, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member "Actually, the FMC clears the route if you "go-around" is what he meant, I think"Hi Bill,That's exactly what I meant. But there are also some other reasons for a complete loss of FMC info (check my post above).I believe FMC u10.5 is a software version for the FMC.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
