Load Manager Question

Featured Replies

I'm at work presently so the numbers I quote here are approximate. I configured the load manager for a 4 hour flight in my COA 737-724 KIAH-KSFO. I added the passengers (7 First Class and 88 in Coach) then the cargo load at around 60% for both front and back. The numbers told me that I could only carry a maximum load of around 13,000 lb of fuel. That didn't calculate out to a 4 hour flight to me so I had to reduce both the cargo and pax to allow me a load of 23,000 # of fuel. (Now, 23,000 pounds may be too much, I know, but I was just guessing here)My question is this: Aloha flies from Honolulu to the mainland in the -700 and that's at least a 5 hour flight to KSNA. Are they limiting the passenger load and the cargo on those flights? What is a typical load (pax/cargo/fuel) for some of the longer 5+ hour -700 flights??? And, will this area be covered in the manual? Thanks!

Good question Steve. I fly the Aloha 737-700 series back and forth from Hawaii to the mainland (usually Oakland) a lot. Aloha's fact sheet lists 12 in First Class and 112 in Coach. The PAX cabin is usually packed. The fuel planning program in FSBuild (still in beta as far as the 737NG is concerned), shows the airplane needs about 24,000 lbs of fuel for the 2200nm+ journey, more if going west, less if going east. I can't get this with a fully loaded cabin and any significant amount of cargo, not to mention ETOPS and other fuel reserve requirements specific to Hawaii routes. I'm wondering if the Aloha models were fitted with any special modifications from Boeing to extend their range to meet the route requirements. I know every time you fly they show a video with the airplane's range which has it able to fly from Honolulu well into the west coast, almost to Denver. When Aloha first started this route, some of the local folks here who had flown on the old 732's they use for interisland flights for so long said they'd stick with the widebody's!Be interested to know how this sorts out.regards,
