Sometimes can't engage autopilot

Featured Replies

Guys: Am I missing something? I can't find a reason why my efforts to engage the autopilot fail. It works many times, and other times I get no response. Keith Whyte

Hi!You can't engage the autopilot below 1000 feet.

Hi KeithWould be good with some more information on when you can and when you can not engage the A/P. I'm sure someone can help you out once we get some more info. ;-)Regards

"You can't engage the autopilot below 1000 feet."There's a difference between being able to engage an autopilot and when it is actually engaged on a normal flight, Gulyas. In real life, the A/P can be engaged on the ground in some modes (for maintenance purposes), but won't allow engagement after takeoff until 400'). From a pilots perspective and for safety reasons, the A/P should not be engaged until the flaps have been retracted.Cheers.Ian.

Rubbish ... I always engage at 400 feet AGL - works fine (including VNAV and LNAV)Martin

OK everyone: I will do a little testing and see what I can narrow the situations down to. It may be that I am missing something obvious. Thanks Keith Whyte

Just one little thing: If I have used the disconnect bar for the autopilot, I noticed I have to reset this bar sometimes, before being able to swith the AP back on with the CMD switch.

Thanks everyone: Well, I don't know what causes this, but I have found a way to avoid it. I switch to the default '37 before I start setting up my flight, then switch back to the PMDG. I've had no problems when I do this. Keith Whyte
