VC Gauges Freeze When Undocking

Featured Replies

I did a fresh install of the original files and then loaded the patch. Loaded the 700 w/VC (using FS2002) and was setting up to use 2 monitors. So I undocked the FMC and moved it to monitor 2. Went to VC view and found VC gauges were not responding. Tried the same with the throttle quandrant and the same problem came up. Then re-docked and all VC gauges were working properly.I tried the same with the 600 and got the same results. It doesn't appear to matter which aircraft you use in VC. I did not experiment with the VC w/Cabin views though. It also does not appear to matter if you are undocking to the same monitor or a 2nd monitor. The problem exists if you are undocking.Has anyone else experienced this?Ken Fortin

Hi,I got the same problem in FS2002. VC gauges freeze when I undock FMC etc... Have only tried the 700 with VC (no cabin) yet.First time I saw this problem, I thought the VC gauges didn't work at all, since they were all black. After reading your post though, I realized that they were actually frozen in the black "non-powered" mode, since I undocked the throttle quadrant and FMC before I powered the plane up.Don't know if this problem appeared after the patch, since i never used the VC before that.Christian

Has only one other person experienced this?Ken

same with me I didn

HiI purchased the 737 Yesterday, (06/08/2003) and installed directly into FS2004. I did not try it without the patch, however the problem is the same; VC CRT gauges do not update when panel items are undocked. I have not yet checked to see if it's just one item causing the problem or if it's just any undocked panel, I have the throttles, FMC, overhead and radios undocked. My system specs for reference.AMD Athlon XP2800+MSI Nforce2 Main boardAsus Geforce 3 / 44.03 drivers512 MB RAMSB Audigy EXFS2004Windows XP SP1DX9.0aI haven't had time to really play yet, but this is the only problem I've found so far.Simon.

Gents-that's done by design (I believe, without being certain, that it's done by other add-on manufacturers too). You will also notice that when you undock any of the three EFIS Displays, the equivalent 2D Main Panel EFIS Display will also be unavailable.I might consider making that an option for them to remain active, but this will have to wait for a later update. Let me know, though, if you really feel this is required.

HiThanks for the reply but I think you misunderstand. It's not the EFIS displays thats the problem.I just did a test on a new machine here are the details:A fresh install of FS2004A fresh install of the 737 base packageNo problem evident no matter what I undock.Install the SR1 updateProblem occours. Here are the details of the problem as I see it on my system:When using a three monitor setup I often have undocked and displayed on the two spare monitors as many of the popup panels as possible. In the case of the 737 I have 1 FMC, the throttles, the overhead and the radios on display. When set up like this, this causes no problems with the 2D panel, all EFIS panels update as normal. However when in the VC, the EFIS panels do not update, they will continue to display whatever was on display when the first pop-up panel was displayed. As soon as all the pop-up panels are closed the VC starts updating again. After doing some tests I have found that the problem actualy occours if any of the pop-up panels are shown when the VC is on, they do not have to be undocked for the problem to show.To clarifiy again It works fine if the SR1 update is not applied!I hope this information will help identify the problem.Simon Pick

Ok, thanks for letting us know, Lefteris. Is there a special reason for this? Performance?I can understand why the EFIS displays aren't available when undocked, since they are visible in their undocked position anyway. Regarding the FMC, throttle quadrant and radio panel, I don't see any good reason why undocking them should freeze the EFIS displays in the VC. I always undock my FMC and throttle quadrant and move them to my second monitor. Then i usually switch back and forth between VC and 2D panel in flight.Well, this is not a big issue for me anymore, since I just installed FS2004 and found out that FMC and other windows could be moved to my second monitor without undocking them first. :-) I would be nice if this could be fixed in the future though. :-)Regards,Christian

>Well, this is not a big issue for me anymore, since I just>installed FS2004 and found out that FMC and other windows>could be moved to my second monitor without undocking them>first.Hi Christian,How can I move the FMC, Radios and Throttles to the second monitor without undocking them in FS2004 ??:-hmmm Regards,Jorge NinyPS: BTW, I

Simon hit it right on the head. He explained the problem I experienced fully. Having this feature does make flying in VC mode more enjoyable.Ken Fortin

Hi Jorge,Well, you actually HAVE to undock them, but only for a short time. ;-)This is how i do it:1. Change to window mode in FS2004 (ALT+ENTER)2. Open the FMC or any window you like, undock it and move it to your second monitor.3. Change back to fullscreen mode (ALT+ENTER)4. Now, your window should reside on your second monitorI guess that with FS2004, Microsoft has made it possible to use fullscreen mode on multiple monitors. It's nice to get rid of all traces of the windows user interface and use fullscreen mode on BOTH monitors :-) It would be more convenient to be able to move the windows directly to the second monitor though. This is a bit "complicated", I think... Maybe it's a FS2004 bug??Christian

HiI am able to move the panels to the other monitor in fullscreen mode. Just drag the panel to the side where you have your other monitor and be sure to drag more than half of the panel off the first monitor. Then it repositions itself on my second monitor. Sometimes the move feature on my second monitor gets really wacky but I think that's a driver "feature". :-)Cheers,

The only way I have been able to run a multi-monitor setup is in window mode. I suspect that this may be because I use a seperate video card for each monitor. Also, have you been able to display the docked popups on the second monitor and still have the VC updating? And lastly do you have the Service release installed? Thanks.Simon Pick.
