August 11, 200322 yr I've just reinstalled into FS2004 after applying the latest patch over the first patch and making a complete balls up of it. I used the uninstall utility and installed the base program and the latest SP1. All seems fine except for a few problems i'm having that i did'nt have before. When taxiing after a flight the aircraft keeps rolling and will only stop if brakes are applied to bring it to a halt. Even when throttles at idle it will keep rolling at whatever speed you want. Don't know if this is normal or not. When in the air using heading select the aircraft overshoots the heading by about 10 degrees and has to correct itself. The same goes for altitude. If i take off without the use of the FMC and set an altitude of say 4000ft it goes past to about 4500ft then descends down again to 4000ft.Any help would be appreciated.Kev Farrow
August 11, 200322 yr Kev,Yes, the idle taxi is correct. That is what the real plane does ;-) PMDG made the change to the FDE for SU1 because an overwhelming majority of folks wanted this behavior. Not sure about your overshoots with the autopilot, can you elaborate more on what you do when the AP acts that way?
August 11, 200322 yr Author A typical setting for me would be flaps 5, alt set at 4000, ias at 160, trim at default, a/t, f/d. I start to roll then press the TOGA switch and pull up at about 120 Knots. After gear up i watch as the plane climbs at a rate of 6300ft! Then unless i push down hard on the yoke the plane points up then falls out the sky. When it does behave it will overshoot to 4600ft then drop back down to 4000ft to level off and the speed will change to 180knots. I thought the plane should follow the director bars on the display even with the autopilot off. when plane is finally leveled off i set a 90 degree left or right turn using hdg sel with bank at 25 or 30. the aircraft then goes beyond assigned heading by about 4 degrees then slowly returns to assigned heading. Not sure if it's me or something else.Kev Farrow
August 11, 200322 yr Hi KevAm I mistaken if I assume you are pretty light and take off with max thrust i.e. N1 LIMIT to TO and CLB? The NG is pretty much over powered so you really need to derate your T/O and CLB thrust in order to keep the craft on track for example to TO2 and CLB2! Try limiting thrust and I think you'll notice a considerable difference! Also seems like you have too much up trim. Try trimming a bit nose down...Hope it helps, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
August 12, 200322 yr "I thought the plane should follow the director bars on the display even with the autopilot off."If it did, Kev, I'd send the aircraft back to Boeing for a major overhaul ;-) The FD is for display purposes only. You have to fly the aircraft manually to follow the FD bar(s) in all stages of flight (using the yoke, trim, throttle or whatever other means you have of flying).Cheers.Ian.
August 12, 200322 yr "the aircraft then goes beyond assigned heading by about 4 degrees then slowly returns to assigned heading."i am experiencing the same thing also.fly safe
August 12, 200322 yr i forgot to mention this is with a fresh install of windows xp and the su1 patch.fly safe
August 12, 200322 yr "If i take off without the use of the FMC and set an altitude of say 4000ft it goes past to about 4500ft then descends down again to 4000ft. Any help would be appreciated." Kev, This is a case of not knowing exactly what the real aircraft does in such cases. This depends upon MODE and V/S. If you were in VANV you would notice this level off deviation (over-undershoot) LESS than climbing at a very fast vertical speed. This replicates real world behavior. You are also noticing that the airplane needs LESS thrust to get rolling, this too is real world replication, if you are use to default aircraft you will think it strange indeed but I assure you it's correct. If it takes XX amount to get the bird moving, physics tells us that less thrust is required to KEEP it moving. So just like the real bird we will see some over-undershoot for altitude capturing or altitude hold. If you press the ALT HLD in a climb, the aircraft will ALWAYS go back to the moment of altitude the button was pushed. As for you HDG SEL issue, I am not sure I understand your statement? If you are flying 001 heading and set the HDG SEL to 040, the aircraft will turn to the new hdg at an angle and will at most miss it by a few degrees untill established. This too is normal. I have just check it and like I said, not more than a few degrees. On Take off you are having a problem with TRIM and incorrect Vr speed. Please set your weights on the FMC and get your correct V spds. It takes some learning but in the end you will gain in understanding such a complex add on...[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. August 12, 200322 yr I've seen it overshoot by nearly 10 degrees in a 90-degree turn in HDG SEL at about 180kts climbing out heavy.I'm getting only about 8 fps in 2D panel view, if that matters. Spot view I'm getting my lock of 20.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
August 12, 200322 yr You are right Lee, but this too shows us the physics are working. A heavy, slow moving bird will not respond as quickly, but try the same HDG SEL at a faster clean speed and see the responce there...[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. August 12, 200322 yr Author Thanks for all your help guys. Just out of interest, i was trying a take off and landing practice without the use of the FMC. I usually use the FMC programming routes and get no major problems.Lastly, what should i put in the load manager as a typical setting, because when i load passengers and some baggage fs2004 says i'm overweight!Kev Farrow
