Continual FMC woes!

Featured Replies

Ya know, I was complianing 2 weeks ago about how my flights from KPSP to KLAX with the PDZ4 arrival was causing the FMC to disconnect either because of overspeed or unable next altitude, blah, blah, blah... And I got some very officious responses about the constraints were causing the disconnect and this and that, blah, blah, blah...Well Mr Merton asked me to send him detailed info on my flights, and I did, asking him to reply to me as to his results. Nada, Nada, Nada from him.... but you know that isn't the point to my post....Guess what?? I fire up FS2002 and get into my trusty DF737 and fly the exact flight and arrival, and the FMC handles it, no problems....And of course I am flying the published arrival anyway! It should handle it.....Well, I am still of the opinion that the FMC for this 737 isn't any way near completion... Read some of the posts from newbies and the alike who haven't been here for awhile. Everyone has got problems with the FMC.. You say so what??? Well what flys the plane anyway after you take off?? Hmmmm, I just remembered these guys are from FLY!! not MSFS. Maybe that's why the plane doesn't work???Still waiting for a bird that can fly and be worth $40.00

Oh one more thing, I am flying the KPSP - KLAX flight all the time, because the Megasecenery Los Angeles is so damn good!!!

I have yet to have one VNAV disconnect, it works perfect for me. If all procedures are followed and parameters are met the FMC does an amazing job on this bird. EDIT :Sure there are some features of the FMC not implemented yet ,but Im sure alot of that will be comming in future updates.

Same here. If the procedures are followed, the FMC works perfectly.George Stoddard

Stuart,I have not yet found the time to set up your flight and fly it (I know that days have 24 hours and if that's not enough, there are still the nights available... but even so).I don't remember (but I may be wrong) promising a response within a few days...This being said, your 2 emails are still in my inbox. I said I will fly it, and I will, and you'll get comments on it.As for the rest of your post... anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com

Anthony, have you flown this route yet?i too am thinking there is something amiss with the FMC of this plane, never had these problems on the 747 PSS FMC and cockpit...

I had some really irradic behaviour with my first installation of 737NG. But after advice here, I uninstalled it using the removal tool, and then reinstalled it. It was like a new plane! Smooth handling, stable FMS flight and approaches.Try:1. uninstall and reinstall, if you haven't.2. Chill out. Offending people that wants to help you isn't the right way./ Olle

Okay, so here's my "report"This arrival is steep from TEJAY on (The FMC warns you, BTW, "STEEP DES AFTER TEJAY" when it becomes active). This means you have to retract spoilers after TEJAY, to follow the geometrical path which is over 4.5 degrees and not overspeed disconnect, especially as there is the 10000 decel before ARNES.Also, where do all the speed constraints you have on the STAR fixes you mailed me come from ? I cannot see them on the chart. One 170 constraint at LIMMA seems to be enough.Every time you put a speed constraint, the FMC will build a shallower path before the constraint to decelerate the aircraft. This means, all things being equal, the path to preceeding wpt will be steeper frm start of decel to preceeding wpt, as the alt diff between the 2 wpts is constant...Finally, before hardcoding any soft constraint, check the LEGS page predictions to make sure you need to hardcode it. For instance, if it is required that you cross SUZZI at or above 9000, there's no need to hardcode it if predictions for SUZZI indicate 9200 (that's just an example). You are making the path steeper also if you do that. (That of course until soft constraints are implemented - yes... I know...).So all in all, it is a quite demanding arrival.I don't know how your other aircraft works, if- it does allow or not (should not) descent below 10000 if speed is higher than 240 - or whatever is set- how it implements DECEL stuff- it implements the standard PTH descents or the geometrical PTH (from 10.3 up). We do the geometrical.- it meets or not all your speed constraints (remember the aircraft is quite slippery, and will not realistically easily bleed speed). So shallower path for decel are required.cheersanthonyPS. No need to say all the above is blah blah blah. It's not ;-)Anthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com

Oh I MUST chime on in here. There is a very important lesson, well there are more than a few from this thread itself =) but the main one is judging something by another simulator and applying it's logic to this NG. You might be able to fly loops in something else but that does not mean you will be able to here. There are rules in the real world and this NG follows as closly as possible like RESTRICTIONS or ALTITUDES that cannot be reached period. It is clear by the flight plan that it is impossible the way it was programed. You were wrong in your assumption and the FMC WORKS just fine . Have a nice day.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J.
