Contrails: hot do i....

Featured Replies

Hi folks, does anyone of you know how to add contrails? Can you share those three 737 aircraft.cfg lines? Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)

I do get them without any changes to aircraft.cfg. Just fly high enough and in the right weather conditions. Yesterday I took of from PANC (Anchorage) heading to KSEA and around FL300 I had very nice contrails :) Thomas

Thomas,i didn't mean the engines smoke that appear automatically over FL310 but those slim white lines coming from the wings.cheersLuigi ;-)

Hi Luigi,Contrails appear in the upper altitudes, dependent on atmospheric conditions. They are from the engines, and no it isn't smoke (otherwise the bird's in big trouble). It is from the hot exhaust gases condensing to form a cloud. The slim white lines you see from the wingtips are from the wingtip vortices, which occur at lower levels in high lift conditions with high humidity. Usually during the approach and departure. The contrails can be turned off and on in the sim with 'I'.Bryan

I would like to know if these wingtip vortices can be modeled... maybe along with the gases/exhaust from the engines as I taxi???Thank for the clarificationSteve

G'day GuysI use the A320 vortex files available at Avsom done by DJ Prev under the title "Vapor trails the full package.Add the following lines to the PMDG CFG file under the smoke system heading.smoke.2=120.0,-82.2,-34.5, fx_contrail_320smoke.3=120.0,-82.2,34.5, fx_contrail_320Add the A320 vortex file to the effects folder. Here is what the result looks like.Enjoyhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/36603.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/36604.jpg

G'day LuigiThe file i use has an FX file called fx_contrail_A320 and the original is called contrails the full package and is in the Avsim library.Yes you must push I to get the contrail and i do not use the gauge just manually using the I key.HTH
