September 21, 200322 yr Hi all!Just a quick question. I was practising a few ILS landings into Brisbane the other day using the MCP. I had it all nice and lined up on APP, with CMD A and B set. The plane was locked on and following the glideslope down for an autolanding when all of a sudden the nose started pointing up, cmd B went out and i ended up flying right past the runway. What's the go there? It did this everytime. I am sure i am doing something wrong with my ILS landing as i am only new to autolandings and am not sure if i have got it all set right. I have the ILS frequencys in both NAV 1 and 2 radios by the way. Did it have something to do with my speed? as i was controlling that myself...any help would be great as i really want to nail a good autolanding!CheersBeau Jackson(Gold Coast, Aust)
September 21, 200322 yr Hi Beau,A possible explanation would be that the anti stall-system kicked in, meaning you were flying too slow.To know what your vref (landing ref speed) is check out the APPROACH REF page of the FMC, and add 5 knots to it.anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com
September 21, 200322 yr Yeah, I had a slight hunch that i might be that. Will have try again tonight and see how i go. Fingers crossed!CheersBeau Jackson(Gold Coast, Aust)
September 21, 200322 yr hi Beauthat will br 99% it, it used to happen to me, now i keep my speed around 10kts + Vref, and she lands like a baby. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
September 21, 200322 yr Always fly VREF PLUS 5, you can also turn off the A/T to avoid this but hey it's their for your protection ;)[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 22, 200322 yr Came across this interesting NG PFD option a few days ago, Anthony....http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/737/...Disconnects.gifPerhaps we need one for G/S tracking, too? :-)Cheers.Ian.
September 22, 200322 yr Hi Ian,Yes, that VNAV thingie is good. Indicating upper limit is easy, but lower limit might be a bit more... difficult... to figure it out...;-)anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com
September 22, 200322 yr Hi, Isn't that what the white bug is for? Can't seem to remember off the top of my head, but I seem to remember that it is actually pretty close to Vref + 5?Boaz
September 22, 200322 yr Ian...where did you get the image from...is it out of an AOM or are there special books with options listed?Just interested in airline options... :-)Stefan
September 22, 200322 yr "where did you get the image from...is it out of an AOM or are there special books with options listed?"From the Boeing Maintenance Manual (D&O section), Stefan... ;-)Just hope Boeing don't mind me posting that pic :( Some see it as good advertising, others as copyright breaches :-(Cheers.Ian.
September 23, 200322 yr cool!Definetly good advertising ;-)Is this manual for all A/C from Boeing's fleet or just for one type? Are all options listed in there?Best Regards,Stefan
September 24, 200322 yr "Is this manual for all A/C from Boeing's fleet or just for one type? Are all options listed in there?"The Maintenance Manuals primarily focus on one aircraft type (737NG, 747 Classic, etc) for one airline, Stefan. However, I noticed a list of possible options in the "Training Information Point" section of the 737 manual for a South Pacific-based airline. There were 11 additional display options not mentioned in the main sections of the manuals. I could list them, but they wouldn't make much sense without pics. You may, however, have heard about the Vertical Situation Display (which shows your approach profile, complete with terrain, overlaid on the bottom third of the Nav Display).Cheers.Ian.
