FD automatically sets MCP speed to 270 from 250 Kts IAS

Featured Replies

Hi,Heres what I like to do:1. Program my flight plan into the FMC setting speeds and alts for each waypoint2. Enroute to the runway I arm Autothrottles and turn the FD on, set MCP speed to 250 Kts, Altitude to 1st cleared altitude, and hdg to rwy heading.3. Press the TOGA switch for takeoff power, manually rotate and climb out, go to v2, retract flaps on schedule.4. At this point, I would LIKE to turn on the autopilot, let it manage speed, while I use HDG SEL to follow vectors given by departure, and not blow my 1st assigned altitude as well as the 250 IAS speed limit below 10K ft.5. Once well organized (near or crossing 10K ft), turn on LNAV and VNAV to start the climb to altitude. (and let the passengers go potty)Problem is; the FMC always sets the MCP speed to 270 Kts, and I get yelled at. What am i doing wrong? I checked the manuals and the forum and nobody else seems to be having this problem, hence the post. Thanks in advance,RegardsSudipta

Hi Sudipta, have you tried manually seeting the climb speed on the clb page ? I have just tried it as I'm writing, and you can set it to whatever you want. It defaults to 290 as the econ climb speed, but you can change it to something else ( as in cruise). The other thing you could try is to manually set n1 and then hit the n1 button and have the auto throttle control your speed. I think that if you press vnav the fmc will set the n1 seeting to what you have on the clb page, although vnav should honour any speed restrictions on the LEGs page. If this is happening your autothrottle mode will be vnav spd. Hope that helps, ant

Sudipta,What you are seeing is the V2+20 setting for T/O G//A. This is perfectly normal in the T/O mode. Set your MCP speed at V2 until established in CLB. Once you drop out of T/O Mode to another A/P mode it will revert to MCP speedRegardsPaul GollnickTechnical Operations/Customer Operational SupportPrecision Manuals Development Groupwww.precisionmanuals.com

There is the 250/10000 speed restriction ALWAYS on the CLIMB page so AFTER passing the airport restriction the next FMC speed is TARGET CLIMB speed. it's nice to look at this out of the *box*, I mean, look at other ways to accomplish this other than always using VANV. You can slow or change speeds many ways here. You can change your target speed on the climb page and stay in VNAV or you can go LV CH and set the MCP speed to whatever you desire. Your flight is dynamic so we should be too and be one step ahead of our aircraft... [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J.
