October 21, 200322 yr I was frustrated with FS9. Crashes to desktop from time to time, system crashes with reboots, poor frame rates with add-on aircrafts (default aircrafts are OK), endless time spend to forums in order to find a SOLUTION. So far, nothing to get me out of this misery. What helped others was no good for me. The system hi-end, P4 2,66Mhz, 1GM RAM -333, 80HDD, FX 5200 128MB nvidia 45.23 drivers, Windows Xp Pro
October 21, 200322 yr ahhh you are telling my beta drivers secret! Those are the best I have ever used....[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg Randy J Smith
October 22, 200322 yr Vassilis,Thank you for the suggestions ... installing the new drivers made the biggest difference for me.With my system, frame rates jumped almost 60% during takeoff, from 8-ish to 12 steady, with an occasional spike to 17+! Of course this was in "VFR" conditions -- heading to KSEA for some weather later.Going to the "Guru" website, the drivers (actually 52.16) there do not have a self installer and may be a bit more frustrating to install. On the "majorgeeks.com" site, an installer has been included with the download: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?...202f3af060b4642.I want to disable the "fast write" as you suggest, but could not find the option in the bios. Where might it be located? Thanks for the help and suggestions.SeanP4 1.8GeForce FX5600 256mb1 gb ddr
October 23, 200322 yr Sean,I have just downloaded the 52.16 drivers but not installed them yet. I read on another forum that some people had problems with those drives (video card fun burned) so I' ll have some thinking first. The AGP fast write option you can find it on your BIOS software utility, under the Advanced tab, submenu PCI configuration. If it is not there, try to update your bios, or download the utility Riva Tuner from www.guru.3d which will give you many othter options for your video card as well (overclocking, etc)This option to disable AGP Fast Writes mainly helps to overcome fs9 crash problems and I don't think that has to offer anything on improving fps.Vassilis
October 23, 200322 yr Vassilis,Thanks for the info ... it seems, there is a never-ending array of tweaks and utilities available. So far, crashing has not been an issue for me. Occasionally the thing comes to screeching halt, but very infrequently. It's just those darn frame rates ... better, with yours (and others) tips, but still low.Anyway, I guess it is back over to "guru" ...C'ya!Sean
October 23, 200322 yr Vassilis,If you can help it would be marvellous.Currently the best frame rates i'm getting are between 3-5 fps.I have a Parhelia matrox 256mb with the latest drivers loadedrunning on an XP2200 running windows xp service pack 1 1.5 gb ram defragmented 120 hard drive running Sony GDM-FW900 monitor with 1900x1200x32@85Hz and a taxan Crystalvision 675 TCO99-5 LCD [email protected] you point me in the right direction so that i can get a reasonable frame rate. Thanks!
October 24, 200322 yr Adrian,Those frames are unacceptable for your kind of system. As I see it, it is probably a video card driver problem, but do some search on this forum, and aslo to the avsim MS Flight Simulation General Discussion Forum with the keyword "frame rates" and you will find numerous tips and tricks for improving fps.Good hunting,Vassilis
October 25, 200322 yr Hi Vassilis,I'm really confused now....I've upgraded my bios Motherboard and graphics card, loaded the latest drivers, re-installed fs9 and PMDG 737 incl SU1.1and whilst i'm at the main panel my frame rates are about 7. if using "W" and switch to outside view, my frame rates are 30-40.When you guys are saying what fram rates you get, is it looking at the main panel or outside?I had a look at FS2000 and frame rates are 100 plus.:-eek
October 26, 200322 yr Have you uninstall PMDG 737NG first??? And did you unistall it with PMDG_737_Remove.exe utility???If not, give it a try and install the aircraft from the scratch. And yes, when we talk about frame rates we have it looking at the main panel. What screen resolution are you in?? Try 1024 x 728.Vassilis
October 27, 200322 yr Here you will find another set of alternate drivers to the default ones from ATI and Nvidiahttp://www.omegacorner.com/I've found them to be really good and much better than the default ones both when it comes to stability but also performance.Richard
October 27, 200322 yr Hi,1900x1200x32 and a second monitor !I think you are really pushing your capabilities here, reduce that main monitor resolution to something more normal, and I guess you will watch those frames rise dramatically.Paul ( SPIM )
