October 26, 200322 yr When i used the manual offered at Avsim that similates a flight from St.Louis to Charlotte i ran everything fine including the autoland but i did the same exact manual for different airports i could not finish the autoland. Is it programed like the real world it only does a full land for Category (III)runways. becuase that's the only thing i can think about. Please Help And Put Your Input. October 26, 200322 yr Sorry to have no answer for you, but I was wondering the EXACT same thing. So, sorry to hop onto your post, but if anyone can tell me too, I would love to know.Chris Catalano

October 26, 200322 yr >I added this so that somebody can look at it >>Best Regards > Adib AfrajNo, you can do an autoland at any ILS airport.I just did one to MHT.Can you tell me:Did you have the ILS freq in BOTH NAV radios?Did you select CMD A and CMD B on the MCP in APP mode?Did you get the GREEN "CMD" light on the PFD, and did you see the white "FLARE" show up once the Glideslope came alive?finally, if all of those things happened, can you tell me what your speed was on final? And how heavy were you?
October 27, 200322 yr I really enjoyed your FMC tutorial Thanks! (Still can't get any SIDS to show up, nor do I ever seem to have any J or V routes in the database).Anyway, I tried to autoland tonight coming in to LAX.>Did you have the ILS freq in BOTH NAV radios?YES - always do.>Did you select CMD A and CMD B on the MCP in APP mode?Yes - always do. Always select BOTH.>Did you get the GREEN "CMD" light on the PFD, Yes. Always do. Always captures the Glide slope perfeectly, and always does so after I hit the APPR button as expected.>and did you see the white "FLARE" show up once the Glideslope came alive? No - never see this. I used to always autoland when I flew the 757 in FLY!!. Not sure why it does everything except the flare itself. What do you think? Thanks for all your incredible help to all of us!Chris Catalano
October 27, 200322 yr Well since we are not there with you, the best thing to do for us here is to paste a screenshot on final after you capture glideslope. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg Randy J Smith
October 27, 200322 yr What about your Vref? Did you check it for 30 degrees Flaps on the INIT REF page of the FMC? It is usually in the 132 Knots area. For my own part, once I am on the ILS, I reduce speed to Vref (for example 132 Knots, if FMC says so) and extend Flaps untill Flaps 30, as the speed is decreasing. Also remember to set the speed brake in the ARM position (arm autospoilers). With regards to the FLARE message, at least for me it does not show up untill I am very close to landing, about 500-1000 ft. agl.Nico
October 27, 200322 yr "With regards to the FLARE message, at least for me it does not show up until I am very close to landing, about 500-1000 ft. agl."According to one 737NG Maintenance Manual...."The FMA shows SINGLE CH in amber in the DFCS status area from localizer capture until the second A/P engages... (The second A/P engages)...10 seconds after the "approach-on-course" submode is active. At this time, the FMA also shows FLARE in white letters in the pitch mode to show the crew that the DFCS is in the dual approach mode".Assuming the LOC has captured and everything is ok, the "approach-on-course" submode is entered when the Rad Altimeter is valid, the Radio Altitude is less than 1500' and Glideslope is captured. So, it should appear at 1500' minus 10x (descent rate in fpm/60). At, say, a 750fpm descent rate, this would occur at about 1375' (if my calculations are correct ;-)).The SINGLE CH in amber may be an option?Hope this helps.Cheers.Ian.
October 27, 200322 yr Hi Adib, I just finished a flight from KPVD (Rhode Island) to KORD (Chicago, IL) Runway 32R and the NG autolanded perfectly. 32R at KORD is not even a CATII runway. Just thought I'd mention this.Regards
October 27, 200322 yr No I don't think it's an option Ian. SINGLE CH until 2nd AP engages. I mentioned this back when the plane was first released. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg Randy J Smith
October 27, 200322 yr Hmmm...But in my case the FLARE message usually doesn't show up already at about 1375 ft. agl. although my descent rate is also around 750 fpm.Anyway, it was just to remind him that the FLARE message does not show up immediately, in case he had not paid attention to this detail...Nico
October 27, 200322 yr >I really enjoyed your FMC tutorial Thanks! October 28, 200322 yr If it's not an option, Randy, I'm having trouble understanding our Maintenance Manual..."DFCS-Operation-Dual Channel ApproachGeneralThe crew can make a dual channel approach. They push the APP mode selector switch and then engage the second A/P in CMD. There can be one, two or no F/D's on. This approach is similar to the single channel approach except A/P A and A/P B are engaged."QANTAS VH-VXA~VXOThe FMA shows SINGLE CH in amber in the DFCS status area from localizer capture until the second A/P engages. This occurs 10 seconds after the approach-on-course submode is active. At this time, the FMC also shows FLARE in white letters in the pitch mode to show the crew that the DFCS is in the dual approach mode.QANTAS VH-VXP~VXSAt 10 seconds after the approach on course submode is active, the FMC shows FLARE in white letters in the pitch mode. This shows the crew that the DFCS is in the dual approach mode."Just wondering why they've omitted the The FMA shows SINGLE CH in amber in the DFCS status area from localizer capture until the second A/P engages. on the later aircraft?Admittedly, all our NG's are -800's ;-)Cheers.Ian.
October 28, 200322 yr The only thing I have experienced is that the aircraft always turns a little bit to the right so it lands on right wheel first.....Best RegardsJohan Adolfsson
