October 31, 200322 yr Hi,I've been flying for a while now using just the MCP but I guess the time has come for me to start learning the FMC as well.So...a simple newbie question - say I want to go from my home airport Arlanda - Stockholm to Heathrow - London. Where and how do I find the most accurate (according to the real world routes) info I need to put into the FMC?Thanks in advance all FMC pros out there ;-)Richard
October 31, 200322 yr Hi Richard,Click my SVA banner and sign up for a membership in this great community. You'll get access to a great flight planning tool with the latest, accurate-to-real-world, flights based on SAS and partner flight time tables. Otherwise my suggestion is ask at the SVA forum. I'm at work now so I don't have access to the flight plans.Oh. And you'd better get your hands on Tim Metzinger's excellent tutorial explaining the FMS in great depth as you do a flight.Do a search in the file library. "Metzinger Tutorial" should do the trick to find it.Hope it helps, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 31, 200322 yr Author Hi Mats,SVA Scandinavian Virtual Airlines, that is so cool :-) I've always been very interested in flightsims and have put alot of time in the FS series but never digged deeper in the Virtual Airlines stuff but I guess this is the time! Thanks alot for your reply, I will sign up for a membership right away! Are there any instructions on how to use this flight planner you mentioned? Well, guess I'll find out anyway real soon :-)All the best,Richard
October 31, 200322 yr Author Hi again,Looked over att your site now and I was impressed, but if I'm not mistaken I must fly this checkride before I'll be able to use the flightplanner program you mentioned?Right now and before I do that checkride, I would like to have some more practise so are there any other good programs I could use for flightplanning in the meantime?Greatly appreciate any tips because I'm really eager to get going with this FMC now :-)TIA,Richard
October 31, 200322 yr Richard,Look for Tim's Tutorial in the file library here at AVSIM as I mentioned in my previous reply. That will get you going with the FMC.As far as the flight plan goes, here's what SVATT (SVA's flight planner) produces for ESSA-EGLL:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/46191.txtSave as ESSAEGLL.PDF on your hard driveGood luck, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 31, 200322 yr Author Thanks alot Mats for all your kind help!! Will start studying now and hopefully join you in a near future - really looking forward to it!But again and until then...can anyone else give me some advice what alternative programs (freeware) for flightplanning are there where I can create and try different routes myself while learning the 737NG?TIA,Richard
October 31, 200322 yr Author Well, I must say that you SVA guys really seem to be helpful guys :-) Thanks for the tips, will check those programs out. I have a feeling that these kind of programs can get quite advanced, but right now in the beginning I would gladly settle for a program that simply could give me the kind of routes you just gave me for Arlanda-Heathrow.All the best,Richard
October 31, 200322 yr Mats/SAS263,A nice try with the plan, guys but I'm afraid the route in UK airspace is some 8 months out of date - the airspace over the North Sea was completely revised at the beginning of the year and although UN866 still exists, most of the waypoints have different names. Here's the current route (starting at the UK UIR boundary):DETOP UN866 BUKUT UP7 LOGAN LAM3A EGLLThe waypoints are:DETOP TIPAN LARDI BINBO AKOKO TOLSA KUBAX BUKUT SONOG BADGA LOGAN TRIPO SABER BRASO LAM EGLLTime to get your VA's planner updated perhaps?BestPete
October 31, 200322 yr LOLThese routes where supposed to be updated as per June 2003! Guess Management has to do a revision on our QAOh well, I'll inform them!
