Can the AIRACs be modified?

Featured Replies

Kelowna airport (CYLW) has recently been given an ILS. I have installed an FS9 patch which adds this to FS9. However, the FMC has never heard of this, or the new intersections (such as KELNA).I have opened up some of the AIRAC files with Notepad. Is there a correct way to add intersections and ILS's without messing up these important files?I would also like to create my own STARS, transitions, and flight plans. Is there some reading material out there for me?Capherc

Dear Capherc (is that your real name?)You can freely add stuff to the AIRAC files, as they are all in text format. If there's something you need explained in there, let us know - if Richard Stefan isn't quick enough to reply, I'll try to chip in with the explanation, as I programmed the AIRAC database interface to our code.Cheers,

Capherc means "Captain Hercules", and I have absolutely no idea why. We can't always pick our own nicknames in life, and mine was assigned by friends and coworkers.I wish to add an intersection "KELNA", which I have the coordinates for. I added it to the "wpNavFIX" file, using Notepad. I used the EXACT same format as all other lines:KELNA KELNA 50.152100-119.251600I even sequenced it "latitudinally". Unfortunately, the FMC does not recognise it. Is there something I have forgotten to do?Thanks,Capherc

Thank-you, Fred. After reading your comments, I found and took note of the "Forum Guidelines".I wish to add an intersection "KELNA", which I have the coordinates for. Hi Capherc,on the new NAVData-Service homepage you can add missing VORs/NDBs and missing FIXes, which should include in the next cycle. More details on the homepage, which will be fully back on this weekend.Hope you can wait a few days more ... but than - all is back :-)Ok, Capherc - i hope i

Hi,I think you did a good job as far as the intersection is concerned. As to the ILS you need to open the wpNavAPT.txt file and search for the ICAO / RWY you want to modify. I give you below the structure of a typical string for a runway:- Airport name- ICAO and RWY- Runway length and magnetic RWY heading (5 five digits runway length, 3 last digits magnetic heading)- LAT coordinate (south is preceeded by a "-") always 6 decinal digits- LON coordinate (west is preceeded by a "-") always 6 decimal digits- localizer frequency- localizer heading- elevation of RWYHope this help.I guess you want to add the localizer frequency and heading to that runway. Then replace the 0s with the frequency and heading values.Michael

I think the reason the FMC does not recognise the intersection is because it is in the wpNavFIX file.AFAIK from my very brief attempt at modifying/creating some SID/STARs the FMC does not 'read' the wpNavFIX file which is why you will see SIDs & STARs with a long list of fixes in the 'FIX' section.I am sure if I am wrong someone from PMDG will jump in :-), and we are talking pre SU2 guys 'cos it's not released yet ;-)RgdsDave
