November 21, 200322 yr > No Shaun I did not take you the wrong way ;). I was just>stating that many in the flight sim comunity have said that>CWS done right like it's on this bird was>impossible (The fact that this is the very first Boeing>airliner to have it shows something) FBW is also different>since it is the only mode for the Bus (the true logic for the>BUS is much more complex than CWS)...............>>>[h4]Best Wishes,>Randy J. November 21, 200322 yr But when it comes to systems simulation, its not really fair to pit the Frolov Dash8 against anything PSS does. PSS = Eye candy ONLYFrolov, PMDG, WELP = ATD ATD: Attention to Detail. Do you know that the FREEWARE Frolov Dash-300 now has a partially working FMC that will be fully functional in a short period of time? So much for freeware airplanes not having an FMC.......One more:PSS = >>>>Oh well "nothing new will be added" :)<<<
November 21, 200322 yr Ok, you've made me want to say a little more about PSS than I had origionally intended. :D I don't think it's fair at all to call their planes "eye candy only". It's obvious that there's a lot more than "eye candy" in their planes. What frustrates me to no end is that they stop short of the ultimate goal and settle for what they think is JUST enough functionality to make people buy their planes. It's always obvious from what they HAVE done that they COULD make GREAT planes, yet they settle for "good enough".It's very frustrating to fly their planes and constantly say, "Gee, I wish they'd taken a little time to model ", during a flight. I really don't bother with any of their current planes anymore for this reason, although I do have high hopes that they will take the time to do their 747/777 remakes right this time.-Shaun
November 21, 200322 yr Randy,But how do you define "done right"? What is the difference, for example, between what's coming in SU2 and what was done with this Dash-8? I will re-install the Dash-8 while I await your response so I can remember how it worked there. I think that you just pushed a button, moved the yoke, let go of the button and yoke and then the plane held that attitude. Is this how the SU2's CWS works? Or, are there some major or minor differences?-Shaun

November 22, 200322 yr Well I cannot comment on the Dash 8 seeing that I have not flown this aircraft. Does it have it's own A/P *logic* or does it use MS's? TCS I am not even sure how that is on the real Dash even to say if the freeware does that correct. It's not just about holding pitch and roll Shaun, it has a LOT of things to work together to work right. Just to give you some examples of the complex modeling, say we are climbing (or descending) in CWS pitch to a MCP alt, ALT ACQ - ALT HOLD will engage when reaching the set alt. there is also the Anti- Stall system that will force LVL CHG if needed. There is the LOGIC that INHIBITS CWS inputs during certain phases of flight. If you roll less than 6 degree it will roll wings level. If you are in CMD alt hold, VNAV,LNAV and apply PRESSURE (couple of seconds) to the controls, it will revert to CWS (either pitch or roll) and we have not even pushed the CWS buttons yet ;) So to answer your question, there is nothing that even comes to this YET ... November 22, 200322 yr Randy,Yes the Dash has it's own autopilot logic. It even has an FMC of some sort although I'm not sure how detailed it is at this point. I know that they plan to eventually model the full FMC though. It's TCS also won't hold a roll of less than 6 degrees, it will roll level. Regarding all you've said about PMDG's CWS modeling, this sounds very interesting. I'm excited to take it for a spin to see how it works. When do you usually use it? During approach? Also, on a totally unrelated note, didn't you mention in the past that you have quite a bit of real life 737 data? If so, do you have or know where I could find accurate step climb data for the -700?-Shaun
