737 Panel Lights

Featured Replies

I find that the panel lighting differs between the 2D and VC panels. The 2D has only back lighting while the VC has in addition the yellow illumination that both the 2D and VC panels had before the 800/900 was introduced. I have reviewed pp. 0-23/24 of the manual. Am I missing something or is there some way to synchronize the panel lighting?Peter Lowry

On what? The yellowish I see on the throttle qaudrant only for both panels. This is the way the lighting is.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpgAMD 64 3200+ | ASUS KV8 DELUXE | GFORCE 5700 ULTRA @535/1000 | WD SATA 80 GIG | 512 DDR 400 |

It sounds like my VC panel looks different from yours. I have nothing remarkable about the throttle quadrent. I have bright (yellowish) illumination on the VC panel but only back lighting on the 2D panel (except when the 2D view of the right seat is selected).Peter Lowry

Well it is hard to guess at what you are talking about, it could be that what you are seeing is what everyone else sees and is just the way it was created. The VC is not an 100% exact copy of the 2D panel although it is pertty close. The CDU-RADIO-THROTTLE panels do match the 2D panel's lighting but the thing to understand here is that when viewing in the full VC mode these panels are no different than they are when seen in the 2D (like you bring up the CDUs). So in short you have ONE TYPE of night lighted for both panels (2D and VC) when the CDU and radio panels are veiwed in the VC they retain their color even though the surrounding areas appaer much darker. Thank you for your response. I understand what you say. The illunination I am seeing in VC and in the 2D view of the right seat appears as a glow projected downward from the bottom of the MCP over the panel below -- just as the 2D main window was before the 800/900 series. I would like to attach screenshots but they exceed the 125 KB allowed. Is there some other way I could get them to you?Peter Lowry

Maybe this will help a little!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/76133.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/76134.jpgObviously different lighting between the 2D panel and the VC. I personally prefer the VC lighting and if at all possible a switch to turn off the lighting if desired. Have seen this with another designer who made different bitmaps for the lighting then read that there was a limitation to the number of bitmaps so have not tried to modify myself. Hope PMDG can answer - Thanks for the wonderful plane but am seriously considering the new Ariane AirShops 737NG. I will not do the link here but try a search for it - the plane is still in alpha right now but looks to have great promise. I'd be curious to see the FPS of this bird. Hope I have not ruffled any feathers - like I said I love this PMDG bird a lot. I have purchased the 600/700/800/900 and the B1900D from PMDG and fly them mainly. I would like to see better lighting in the 2D cockpit though. Thanks, just my $0.02.Terry 'netguru' M.

Hm, au contraire :) I like the 2D lightning just as it is for example! I find the way it's dark, with illuminated switches gives it much higher realism for the actual flight. Now, we could all wish that the cockpit looks like this:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/537469/L/:) :) :)

Well maybe Vin can comment about why this still looks to match the older version or at least more than matching the current. Araine's NG is 3D only, there is NO 2D cockpit and no MANY other things like spd and alt intervention just to name a few! You can throw away money if you like though ;-) but don't say I did not warn you about such business hooligans as Araine. Least ANYONE forget what type of folks they are read Avsim's thoughts on the matter here.http://www.avsim.com/pages/0902/pt_again.html[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Very much appreciate the info Randy - not to say I have not thrown money away before on FS (definately not PMDG yet ;)) but there are some payware out there that is not worth the dinero. It would be nice to have a choice with the PMDG 737ng though or have the VC look the same as the 2D.Thanks for the reply,Cheers,Terry 'netguru' McPeck

Speaking of which, the night lighting of the 800/900 2D panel EFIS is different from the night lighting of the 600/700, in particular, the outer knob selectors are not visible at all in the 800/900.I liked the 600/700 lighting because the knobs were a lot more visible and easier to aim for with the mouse.Small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Trying to find find mouse points is extremely difficult to accomplish on the 2D night panel, and I don't use the PMDG NG737 (at night) for that reason. The rest of the A/C is basically superb, especially with some fixes on the way.Ron McLeod CYEG

Try set your brightness a bit higher on your monitor. This will help you see the panel a little better. Hope it helps,

I actually bought a better monitor with better gamma just for the PMDG in Flightsim. If I turn it up any more it kinda washes everything else out - like the throttle panel looks kinda weird because its too bright compared to the main panel but thanks anyway, I had already read about that suggestion in another thread. I searched extensively because the panel lights changed so much between the 600/700 and the 800/900.I would still prefer a better choice to be able to see the 2D panel. By the looks of other posts it looks like other people also agree. Of course Randy has mentioned that other people wanted it darker also. How can you win.I might try to see if I can do anything about it myself - of course I am not a graphic artist so it may take awhile ;).Thanks PMDG for such a wonderful bird.Cheers,Terry 'netguru' McPeck

There was much complaining over the original night lighting. While I liked it I perfer the newer one much more and I can see all that I need to just fine. You cannot please everyone and this is one area that proves that point ;-). There is no way to change the graphics since they are locked in a gauge and one could not share any files since they have copyright.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J.
