6/700 Logo Light Always On?

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm that the 8/900 upgrade has caused the 6/700 logo light to be displayed, no matter how the overhead switch is set? Is this related to the change in the model and will it be fixed when the new 6/700 model is released?Since I upgraded to the 8/900, my 700 series aircraft's logo light is always on, no matter how the logo light switch is set.Bruce Nicholson

Hi Bruce,It was the same with the 600/700. ;-)The Logo switch is inop. If I remember correctly from the beta, this is due to a limitation with the number of lighting effects FS can handle (for now PMDG has maxed out FS's capability).Thx

Thanks George!I thought the light was operable in the original 6/700. I remember seeing the 700 parked on the ramp with no logo light. After upgrading to the 8/900, the 700 light is always on. Guess it'll stay that way until MS provides more light sources in the sim.Bruce

From memory it is off if the battery is off ie cold and dark, I would need to check it out thoughNick

>From memory it is off if the battery is off ie cold and dark,>I would need to check it out though>>NickThe Logo light comes on:If you turn on the logo light switch (this turns on ONLY the logo light)If you turn on any other lights. It is possible to have the battery on and the logo lights off.

The PMDG plane uses the logo light in the texture. It is possible to change this.1 - The PMDG_TAIL_L.BMP must be changed to all black;2 - put 2 effects as type 9 in the aircraft.cfg lights section, you will find in the library the effects for that;Jos

I didn't perform the modification in the PMDG plane however I've done this in other planes like in ready for puschback. If you look in to the textures you will notice that the tail light texture isn't all black (same happens to the fuselage) that means that the landing light on condition will iluminate the tail. I think that lot of producers prefer this approach because the ilumination effect is brighter. However the logo switch will not work.To change this. First you need to know if the logo switch in upper panel is connected to the logo light circuit, in PMDG case it seems so (you can check this by using Pete Dowson FSlook, clicking the switch the logo light condition must change). In the aircraft.cfg you will find a lights sections each line reflect a particular light (I believe 19 is the maximum allowed, however is possible to reduce the number of lines by combining all the lights of a particular circuit in one file, however you will need to look in to the effects MS SDK, specially the emiter section). Each line is connected to a particular effect file, the name in the end and a electrical circuit, the number in the beginning. A nice tutorial how to add things in to the light section is the readme in the nicksaijetexhaust.zip available in the library. Another source is the container MS SDK.To have the light you will them need an effect file that will produce the light try the 737-400lightkit.zip file available in the library. The hard work is to place the effect in the model is allways a lot of trial and error situation. Usually a good start point are the numbers for tail strobe.Jos

I believe the reason devs handle the logo light this way is that it is assumed that the logo light should be on below 10,000, and since your landing lights are usually also on below 10,000, it makes sense to combine the two when short on the number of lights in FS9. It's a design decision based on limitations.I'd much rather have the logo lights tied to taxi lights and/or wing lights, but, as JC says, you can tweak the lighting textures and modify the behavior. But don't worry, a virtual ground controller won't hold the fact your lights aren't setup correctly against you, since for starters, they can't see your plane in the first place :)

Tim,>> It is possible to have the battery on and the logo lights off.I'm not seeing what you describe, or else I wouldn't have made the post.If I have all light switches turned off, and I also have the battery switch set to off, I see a cold, dark cockpit. Makes sense. However, when I switch to the outside view, the cabin lights and the logo light are illuminated. It's perplexing because I didn't have that happening before the 8/900 upgrade. Before the upgrade, I could have the battery on, and full control of the logo light (whichever setting for the logo light was represented on the tail).Perhaps I can switch to the Cessna and check out the default settings. It may be possible I have a switch turned on and it's not showing on the 700. I was able to solve my non-working radios by going to the Cessna, turning on the master switch and then returning to the 700.Bruce
