NDBs in ND

Featured Replies

Only recently purchased 737 600/700 (fed up waiting for DF737), really pleased with the product but can someone please tell me how to get NDBs to display in the ND, everything else is there Airports, waypoints, VORs etc but no NDBs. Tried searching the forum but can't find any reference to my problem there. Thanks,Pete

Hey Pete,The DF 737 is due out sometime in the summer/autumn, if you were expecting it sooner then that's the reason your fed up :)As for the NDB's. As far as I'm aware they can't be displayed on the ND in the same way as VOR's and airports can. You can tune the NDB's and have the ADF arrows displayed on the ND though.CheersDavid

Hi there David, thanks for reply, I was afraid that was going to be the case. Do you know if this is due to a limitation within fs9 or PMDG, or is this the way it is in the real-life 737NG? I find it rather strange that NDBs are displayed in the default msfs GPS but not on the ND of the PMDG736/7, Pete

"I find it rather strange that NDBs are displayed in the default msfs GPS but not on the ND of the PMDG736/7," Really how so? The default is not a ND in the true sense of the word now is it? I would not judge anything whatsoever from the default 737 to compare to this aircraft. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. I think he meant the FS GPS unit, not the default 737 :)David

The only reason I said I thought it was strange that the default GPS displayed NDBs was because I do consider the PMDG package to be a far superior product and I don't think any inference to the contrary can be read into my original post, certainly none was intended. Nonetheless I do consider it 'strange' that NDBs are not displayed in the ND and it does say in the manual (I'm one of those who does RTFM, I might not always fully understand what I'm reading, but I read it), and I quote, " STA (station) - displays all FMC data base navigation aids if on map scales 5, 10, 20 or 40 nm. ", so as NDBs are present in the FMC database I see no reason why they are not displayed on the ND unless, as I intimated in my earlier post, there are reasons why this feature could not be implemented. Being a relatively inexperienced user of this superb package I thought I was asking a valid question and was somewhat surprised by the tone of the vastly more experienced and knowlegable Randy J. Smith to whom the likes of myself look to for help, guidance and informative answers to what to some might appear to be rather silly or ill-informed questions.Regards,Pete.

Here, Here Pete.Well spoken!!!

Hi Pete,Actually I was a little baffled with this myself so I took some time to read what our dear captain B. Bulfer has to say about the issue:8<---NON DIRECTIONAL BEACONS (Marker beacons)At Jeppesen, most NDBs are identified by the use of the station identifier and loaded in the NDB navaid file. Ex: FGalveston NDB is GLS. Until recently, where more than one NDB navaid with the same identifier existed, only one was placed in the NDB navaid file; the other was placed in the wpt-file - meaning it could only be accessed by its full name. The suffix NB is used only for carriers wanting the NDB to go into the wpt file.Entry into the NAVAID entry of the REF NAV DATA to obtain the frequency is impossible.NDBs are packed as waypoints and do not show up on the EFIS map when the NAVAID button is pressed.8<---Seems the PMDG NG is simulating the real world NG in this respect as well. NB. You can still tune and navigate with NDBs though, even if they don't show up on the Map/ND.Hope it helps,
