May 20, 200422 yr G'Day everyone.Im sure that this has been posted before, I couldnt find it though!I have a radio scanner at home (Adelaide) and I often hear Adelaide Departure say:"Virgin 158 cancel SID at SULLYS, Track direct to DANKS, Planned route." This means that the aircraft doesnt continue the SID up to ROGGS.. but instead rolls out early and heads straight for DANKS some 200nm out...This got me woundering.. if we manually enter all the waypoints for a SID and then simulated the cancellation, is there a way to make the FMC skip the remaining waypoints before the direct one? If that makes any sense :) Cheers,RyanProfessional Coffee Drinker/BAe146 DriverAircraft Maintenance Engineer
May 20, 200422 yr "is there a way to make the FMC skip the remaining waypoints before the direct one?"That makes no sense whatsoever??? If the waypoints were manually entered, the pilot would simply scroll down the DANKS and click the LSK on the Legs page, then enter Danks as the next waypoint after Sully's.This would clear all SID waypoints between SULLY'S and DANKS.John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer

May 20, 200422 yr Don't worry Ryan ... your question made perfect sense. And John answered it anyway ...If ATC clears you "direct" to a waypoint, just enter that waypoint as the first entry in the LEGS page, EXEC the change, and as long as you're in LNAV mode, the aircraft will roll towards that waypoint and fly direct. If the waypoint you are cleared to is in your flightplan (it should be if ATC is doing their job right!) then as John said, you just downselect that waypoint from your LEGS list, then upselect it to the first entry in the LEGS list, and EXEC. All waypoints leading up to the direct waypoint (including fixes on a DP) will be deleted.I end up using this procedure a lot on VATSIM. Especially since I fly late at night a lot, when there isn't much traffic, which gives ATC the flexibility to send me direct and shortcut my route a bit to save time. Obviously, pilots (and airlines) appreciate direct clearances whenever they receive them, since it saves time and money.
May 20, 200422 yr If you were really flying with PAX you would have selected HDG SEL towards the DIR TO fix and when rolled out on course engage LNAV. Makes for a smooth transition.
