Speed Tape Problem!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I've had this problem for a while now and I've taken a screenshot to show you it. This is me cruising at FL360 with a clean wing etc etc but the speed tape shows that I'm overspeeding. I cannot work it out! Is there anything I'm not doing? All the speeds in my FMC are wrong for example, the Approach Ref for Flaps 40 is 1118kts!! Any thoughts or do you think I should do a new installation?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82628.jpgCheers,

Alex,Are you using the same units for mass in all settings. You might like to check that you are using Kgs right throughout your option settings.Just a guess though.Rgds,

Somewhat similar to a problem I've been experiencing, not just with PMDG but all planes. When I'm coming in on approach my speedtape will zero out and then AT will go crazy trying to speedup. Eventually it seems it will "unstick." I've had this happen in almost every plane including the PMDG's. In the 700 I had an odd issue where the tape would zero out for a second then comeback, however, it would not affect the AT.EDIT: Oh I forgotRYAN SOMMERS

Maybe a sudden change in wind speed/direction is causing this? Also, have you set display IAS rather than TAS under realism settings?

Yes. the only "luxury" I have is no gyro-drift or sun whiteout. All other realism are set on.

The zero airspeed problem is probably related to pitot icing...check your FSUIPC and external wx add-on settings and try killing off the icing altogether to see if that cures the problem. Assuming you are turning pitot heat on, in FS9 "severe" icing can still cause this effect. Turning on cowl heat seems to help in the PMDG and some other acft when it happens.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Oops you did it again! ;-)Put your name in a signature in your profile and you'll never forget it! Just to rule out the obvious here. I presume you have pitot heat on?Oh, and also do you have any weather add-on installed or are you using FS vanilla weather?Cheers,

I'm not sure if I did in other aircraft when it happened, however, it happened in the PMDG and I know I had probe heat on; doesn't that include the pitot heaters? I use AS2004. Unless it was a glitch I don't see how icing conditions could have been occuring at 4,000 feet over KLAX yesterday. RYAN SOMMERS

The icing behavior in FS9 is flaky at best. I ran the WeatherSet utility from the FSUIPC SDK and watched sporadic random patches of level 5 (severe) ice come and go. When the level 5 ice occurred in the layer at which I was flying, my A/S dropped to zero even with pitot heat on. Not realistic, but this is how FS9 behaves. My advice is to turn off all icing in FSUIPC and/or AS2004 and see if the behavior stops. I suspect that it will.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

hi, check your weigth in the FMC, you sure have the wrong number or as is said before you are mixing lbs with kgs hope its fixed, you all take care out there Christian Llull Illes Balears

At Ryan:I'll second Bob's comment. I've been beta testing both the NG and AS2004 and severe icing seems to do this occasionally. I think there's a setting in FSUIPC that will take care of it if you have it registered. Or there should be a setting in AS2004 as well. You might also want to check out the HiFi Sim forum just below here for additional notes on this problem. At Alex:As Brad pointed out you are most probably mixing your weight units in the PMDG Styles menu and the FS Options International settings. Also check that your Load manager uses the same units as the two above.Hope it helps,
