July 25, 200421 yr Your advice please--having programed the FMC and activated the VNAV and LNAV switches; after a short while the VNAV cuts out, especially when it nears a waypoint change of direction. ALSO I frequently crash on take off the aircraft tilting to the right at an acute angle and unrecoverable. I feel that this is something to do with TRIM. If so,how do you adjust it and to what degree? Thanks Marty
July 25, 200421 yr Check your legs page in the FMC to see if there are any dicontinuity's in the flight plan. If so these need to be removed by LSK clicking on the waypoint below the disco then LSK on the line where the disco appears. When all are removed, click on "Activate" again.CheersTimhttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif
July 25, 200421 yr Commercial Member Marty-This problem you with the airplane banking sharply:This sounds remarkably like either:1) A right engine flameout that is not accounted for with rudder input to stop the roll to the right. (should be obvious- you'll get lots of lights and warnings....)2) A joystick calibration problem where the joystick is sending improper information to the sim. I'd recommend checking your joystick calibration... It is possible that your stick is adjusting AILERON TRIM without you knowing? Might happen if you have aileron trim mapped to a switch on the joystick if that switch is faulty and sending commands to the sim... (this is about as unlikely as any scenario i can think of, by the way...)Your VNAV disconnect problem sounds suspiciously like your joystick is "spiking" and sending commands to the machine.... However- if you are seeing a roll problem in takeoff- I'd expect to see LNAV disconnecting rather than VNAV...This being the case- can you describe a bit of the route you are trying? Perhaps you are asking too much of the aiprplane in VNAV and it is not capable of making the climbs you are asking between waypoints? Robert S. July 25, 200421 yr It's a bit complex Marty but VNAV and LNAV have criteria that must be adhered to for proper engagement. One example is the speed rule for VNAV. If one is coming down hill and goes 15 knots faster than the FMC target speed VNAV will disconnect. Another one is when you program a speed restriction on a waypoint without adding an altitude restriction to this same waypoint then VNAV will disconnect (Note: In the real NG you certainly can have just a speed wpt without also a alt wpt restr). There are more reasons for disconnects, but these cover a good deal of the ones people see.Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. July 26, 200421 yr Randy, Thanks for advice. I have been altering the speed only, so it sounds as though problem solved. Thanks again Marty
July 26, 200421 yr No problem Marty glad we could be of help. I would like to clarify something I mentioned in the other post. The 15 knot rule for VNAV disconnects only applies below 10000', if you are above 10000', your speed in VNAV PATH can reach as high as the barber poll (red warning bricks on the PFD) before the AFDS reversion to LVL CH mode. It's when you come close to 10000' that you really want to be close to target so your aircraft can slow at 10000' level off @ 240 knots. Now you can always go for a VNAV SPD DEScent which will ignore the path and pitch for speed. Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J.
