Hi Bruce,If you download liveries from the PMDG web site (http://www.precisionmanuals.com click on downloads tab), simply place the livery installer you download in any directory of your choosing, double click, and the automated installer will do everything for you.In most cases, when you download a user-made livery from the Avsim library (or anywhere else for that matter), the author of the repaint will include a readme.txt file describing in detail what you need to do to make everything work properly.
