September 14, 200421 yr Ok guys, as stated in the fs hardware forum under general discussion;disable DEP (Data Execution Prevention) in your boot.ini (set the flag to "AlwaysOff".Furthermore, ALWAYS, after SP2 has installed, REinstall all the latest drivers for : Mainboard chipset, GFX card, Soundcard and DirectX9.0c (Even if you installed it before - reinstall!!)This should eleminate all stutter problems with any game. (Providing you have an adequate system)cheers,Anthony
September 14, 200421 yr Yep, install it again.Remember though that directx is a sort of library that gfx drivers can pick features from, if implemented in your gfx card chipset or gpu (to keep it simple).Reinstalling directX ensures that your gfx card's drivers have absolutely the access they need to run optimal.
September 14, 200421 yr Looked for this DEP flag in my boot.ini but couldn't find it, does that indicate a potential problem? I'm running XP with SP2 installed.Another question I asked in another thread is how to best utilize my new GFX card, an X800 Pro with the PMDG a/c when it comes to all different settings both for the card itself but also in FS9 display settings? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Went from an Nvidia Geforce 4 4800 Ti to this X800 Pro to get rid of as much stutters as possible and of course it went better but not as good as I hoped for.Cheers,
September 14, 200421 yr As for the settings, i have (ATI 9800 Pro) set my AA on 4X and temp AA off as it work in conjunction with your v-sync (very important, unless you have more than 30fps allround and nobody has that, unless you turn the sliders all the way down.)AF i have off - difference is hardly noticable, but its there, nevertheless, too little to bargain.Quality = highv-sync (for now) is offTrueform = offDrivers - CAT 4.8resolution - 1152 X 864 / 32bitAs for fs9 you have to experiment yourself, for example some people like mip-map setting high, i like it in the mid (4).Further more - clouds fps fixactive skyblue earth texturesspecial enhanced runway / taxi and airport texturesfsgenesis - east coast full install, etc (freeware)ProjectAI (Traffic at 30%)average fps - default aircraft - 26average fps - PMDG / Aeroworx - 22But this is extremely dependant on where you fly, what weather, flying vc or 2d and settings within pmdg or aeroworx.I have the fps locked at 30 - lowest is 15(!) - which is pretty good, considering when that is flying on approach at KORD, with dense weather and visibility at 20nm.Mostly fps stays at 29.8I will post screenshots soon....greetings,Anthony
September 14, 200421 yr Oh, and richard it IS there, example:(slide your window slider to the right)[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOffif it really aint there just add it and make the flag as above
September 14, 200421 yr SORRY, I FORGOT TO METION THE FLAG NAME; --- NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF ---Hope this clears any mistakes...That flag will disable all DEP processes - hardware (amd XP proc's don't have support for dep) AND software.
September 14, 200421 yr :-) OK thanks, that explains it - was looking for a flag named DEP something...One more thing, you write (amd XP proc's don't have support for dep). What does that mean to me runnig a P4?
September 14, 200421 yr Always wondered what this AGP aperture size is all about? Have mine set to 128 MB at the moment, what difference will changing it to 32 MB make?
September 14, 200421 yr In FS2004? - A LOT! - read this topic:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=3358&page=(MS FS general discussion - Hardware discussion - AGP Aperture...)Also look for my screenshots at the screenshot forum and the hardware forum (where the url is above)
September 14, 200421 yr Just read it and it was very interesting, thanks for pointing the topic out for me!
September 30, 200421 yr Hi,Two questions about DirectX...1. I downloaded DirectX from MS's site but when I tried to reinstall it, it didn't appear to do anything...and my thought was that was because it already found the latest version of DirectX to be installed. So...how do I reinstall DirectX?2. Is it important which I install first, the drivers for my GFX, sound etc cards or DirectX?TIA,
