SIDS/STARS and Standard FS2004 ATC - How do you do it?

Featured Replies

Hello friends,I have downloaded and/or created various SIDS/STARS and FLGTPLANS for Australia. Every time I get within about 30NM or so of my DEST, even with a STAR selected, for example, I get RADR VECTORED to intercept the stock-standard ILS for that airport.Even when within the FS2004 flight planner I have added a particuar STAR (or SID), ATC still insist of vectoring me.I don't use SATCO or any of the other ATC add-ins, and would appreciate your experiences in making the inbuilt ATC of FS2004 let me actually fly a SID/STAR.Many thanks in advance, Chardy

Hi Chardy,When I fly off-line I usually cancel my IFR flight before they start fooling around with me and do my own approach. But if I can choose I'll fly with real ATC on VATSIM. The FS ATC AI is really dumb! ;-)Cheers,

Actually this is what could happen in the r/w. If traffic requires, ATC will begin vectoring before you reach the end of a STAR. I was recently on a flight from Denver to Chicago and ATC began slowing us down and vectoring us off of the star more than 30NM out from KORD.Otherwise I don't believe there is anyway to get the FS9 ATC to what you are looking for. You may want to try the general FS with the question. As Randy mentioned, give one of the on-line ATC services a try. I use VATSIM (www.vatsim.net) and IMHO they do a nice job of recreating the r/w ATC environment.
