Hi,What I noticed is that if you disengage the A/T the airplane is also disengaging the VNAV.Also noticed on the thrust levers A/T DISENGAGE switch.Now, I am not a 737 driver (thou a real 744) so here is the question?Is this specific for the 737

For example in 744 you can be dispatched under MEL (Minimum Equipment List) without A/T (auto throttle) but restricted to CAT III APP, thou the VNAV works without any problems, just manual adjust the power settings. You completely sure about that Alex? Certainly the FMA on the 744 does not show FMC SPD or VNAV PATH after one disengages the A/T and the VNAV button goes out on the 744. What happens after you do this is I am not sure. I think it maintains what was the current speed? but again without the FMA showing anything I would have to look deeper into this. I am having trouble understanding the logic for the AFDS in that you say that VNAV is still engaged (i.e.-controlling) but you are manually controlling the power. While it is true one can manually (to an extent) control VNAV speed with SPD INTV this is not what you are saying here. SO in what sense is VNAV still engaged? For the 737's A/T disengagement you make mention too, it's not modeled in that location. TOGA is there on the virtual cockpit's throttle quadrant though. My understanding is that the A/T works together with the FMC for proper power setting in automatic flight. I don't believe that the FMC can control power without it. I wanted to say that even in say a VNAV DEScent phase, the A/T usally remains in the ARM position so not technically controling speed although it will add power if speed begins to bleed off to much from target. Ah now this is what I was missing from your other post. So, IF you do it the way I stated, namely flip the switch of the MCP then it should be inhibited (VNAV+FMC SPD GONE) BUT if you do it from the throttle quadrant than it is another matter correct? Hi Timothy,Yes, they work as follows:If disconnected from throttle levers you have full compliment of VNAV with stall protection.If disconnected from MCP (A/T SWITCH) VNAV will work but no stall protection.So if we fly manually (sometimes we like to do something) and is bumpy we prefer to disconnect A/T from throttle levers button and adjust power manually.

Alex,Are you sure this is a standard 747 mode of operation or may it be an option? I tried to find any reference to this in our documentation here. But couldn't... Could be me though...
