To those who have always wanted to be able to ZOOM in the NG virtual cockpit WITHOUT it also ZOOMING the outside view then by all means download this fine FREE module from Flight 1. In fact, it takes away the NEED to PURCHASE Active Camera. AC does not even do this (zoom without also zooming outside view).... You can grab it here http://atr.flight1.net/atr_downloads.aspBest Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/southparkcartmad.gif
I WANT MY 747!
Caution! Not a real pilot, but do play one on TV ;-)

Yes it is a very cool utility. Funny in the thread in the main forum asking MS for things desired in thge next version I mentioned this one function (Zooming in the VC PANEL without also zooming outside perspective) so I was quite shocked to find was indeed the case with F1View. Now it is not as *smooth* as Active Camera but for those who refuse to buy a utitlity just to asses the cabin etc this is the one to get.. Best Wishes,
Randy J. I used this utility since its release and removed this file the same day. Mouse wheel zooming in VC only is a cool feature although Active Camera allows the same function with numpad keys 8 and 2 (faster and more precise). Walking around in the cabin takes a while (much easier with the view preset). Also mouse panning is not as smooth and sometimes erratic. Anyway it's a good free alternative for those who do wish to invest $15 in AC. Peter V.S.

also want to add that the F1 utility does not 'zoom' the view without zooming the exterior view, it simply move your eyepoint (it would be nice if indeed it did zoom though)it just places the standard ctl/shf/+/- keys to the mouse, neat idea but not required really.

I am not sure what you are talking about Mike but I certainly can zoom into the PANEL alone without effecting my outside perspective whatsoever which by the way one cannot do with Active Camera with my MOUSE but as pointed out can be done with AC with the numpad 8 & 2. Randy,I think Mike is right. You actually move the EYE POINT backwards and forwards with the thumb wheel in F1View as with AC you zoom back and forth. Using CTRL+SHIFT and thumb wheel in F1View will zoom in the same manner as AC does.Neat free utility though.CHeers,

There is a complete misunderstaning in the optics principles involved. If you are in a real plane, in the cockpit, and use some kind of optical device to "zoom" on the panel, you will zoom everything in the viewing spot. Even the world outside. What you would do, as a real person in the cockpit, is lean towards the instruments to have a better look. This won't do anything to the outside view. This is the exact same case in MSFS9:the VC is a direct total 3d rendered view, so you can't zoom on just a spot. By zooming you zoom everything.Only way to view something larger is getting nearer. That's what 8 an 2 in AC does (move the virtual person forward and backward), and the wheel does in F1view.
