December 17, 200520 yr How do you open the different doors in the 744 without using keyboard shortcuts? What would the pilot actually press in the cockpit to do it? Also, can you pull up to a boarding tunnell and then open the door it connects to so that the passengers can board through there just like in real life? Thanks a lot in advance for any help, JTH :)
December 17, 200520 yr Commercial Member The doors are not openned from the cockpit, but are openned manually. You can open any door individually using an appropriately assigned key command.Best,Vin ScimonePMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/devteam.jpg Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com
December 18, 200520 yr So in the real 747-400, a person standing outside the door unlocks it and walks in, is that correct? Is there anyway to go up to a boarding tunnel and then use an assigned key to open the door connecting to that tunnel? Also, on a real 744 pulled up against a boarding gate, would they only be able to use one door? Seems like it would take ages to board everyone in that case. Thanks in advance once again for any help.
December 18, 200520 yr Hi there JTH. I'm assuming you've never been on a 747 and have limited knowledge of the craft so I'll try and make this as simple as possible. As far as I know, the door can be opened from the inside and outside of the plane. Under normal circumstances the flight attendants will manually open it from the inside. There are absolutely no door opening controls in the cockpit. For your second question, yes. Assigned keys, which open the doors, can be used at any given moment...even when in air! (only because it's a flight simulator) Once you pull up to a jetway and want to open the door which is connected to it, just push the correctly assigned key for that door.As for the third question, no. If you've ever been on a 747-400 at major airports, the gates in which they park at have two jetways. Usually the first jetway will be reserved for first/business class passengers (depending on airline). The other would be for economy. Flight simulator only has single jetways. I believe you can download/buy some scenery packs for airports which have the jetways used for 747s. Keep in mind though, some airports only have single jetways and can also accomadate for 747-400 so it is still entirely realistic to have 747s pull up into gates like that.Hope that helped.- Tim
December 21, 200520 yr Thanks Tim, that was very helpful. But who opens it from the outside when the crew come aboard in the first place? Is the flight attendant or pilot or someone else? Thanks...
December 21, 200520 yr Jth,the doors are closed from outside overnight and security seals applied.Generally a couple of hours before departure the ground engineer opens one or more forward doors left side either from engineering steps or the jetty.regards Jim
