Waypoints and Speed

Featured Replies

Hi Y'all. Look I am having some trouble with the 747-400's FMC system. I do not know how to put in the speed so it will go over 360knots and how to insert waypoints. could some one tell me how to put these two things in. THNX, Christian

You shouldn't have to enter the airspeeds (especially 360 kts!). The FMC should auto-calculate the most efficient speeds. However, if you feel the need to manuall enter speeds at a waypoit (as in Altitude or waypoint restrictions), it is done on the LEGS page. Crack open the FMC section of the manual for the correct syntax for entering the data.

However,If my memory serves me right you can't override the values for waypoints in CRUISE segment of flight. Only waypoints during CLIMB and DESCENT can be modified with regards to speed and altitude. (And this is reversed for entering winds...)Hope it helps,

If want zoom along for the whole flight, enter 500 as you cost index ("CI"). That'll get ya going. Of if you want just need to use the passing lane for a moment to get by an old, lumbering A-300, tap the MCP airspeed knob. The window will open up and you can dial in anything you want.

where is the cost index?

You'd better refer to the manual, mate. The section on the FMC in particular.A forum search will bring up plenty of info on the Cost Index too but briefly it's a value you enter that determines (amongst other things) the cruise speed.Either that or, as Sam says, you can go into SPD INTV mode.

SPD INTV is exactly what what you need to use as Sam states andMats is also correct about cruise limitations for wpts speeds. ...............Randy J.
