August 2, 200619 yr I have flown the 737NG for a while now using the 2D cockpit only and I never seem to find a use for the approach and landing screens. I have got so used to the 'Z' screen that I feel uncomfortable out of it. In particular I cannot see the engine indicators in the approach and landing screen which I find useful to glance at. I am wondering whether other people find as I do or am I missing something in these other screens. I use the mouse and keyboard and perhaps this may explain it. Anyway I would be interested in other people's views,Best wishes, John Morgan
August 2, 200619 yr I'm sure there's as many preferences as there are pilots.I'm used to looking over the glare shield, so I don't use the approach or landing either although I'm sure if that's what you're used to then that's what you prefer. I think it is a nice touch that they are provided. For me, it's just important that the landing zone is not obstructed because I'm focused on it and adjusting to keep it from moving away or getting closer, or skewing left or right (i.e, just getting bigger). It's amazing how much easier it is to land RW with all the extra visual and motion cues that are available than what's available on a PC screen. Therefore, whatever we're used too is what we use.
