Unnessessary banking in CRZ

Featured Replies

It seems the 737 bird banks excessively during the cruize phase. I re-execute the next leg and it helps alittle but seeems alittle un-real. Any thoughts reguarding this or similar behavior would be helpful. Thanks you all.Alex

Although I'm not a RW 737 driver, it doesn't seem excessive to me. 25 deg bank angle is the norm.(If you ever had the chance to fly the PSS A320 series, you'd know what "excessive" is!)

The bank is excessive. I started a thread on this subject several months ago, and even researced the protected airspace on jet routes and learned that the FAA allows for a half-standard rate turn for cruising jets. A real 737 jock told me that they will switch from LNAV to HDG for turns that exceed a certain amount (I forget) to use the manually set bank limit, which I set to 15 deg for cruise. Even on the real thing the FMC can command excessive banks. As TAS increases, the bank angle required to achieve a standard rate turn (360 deg / 2 min) increases significantly (it is a tangent function).
