September 2, 200619 yr I was reading through the accident report of SIA006 which noted that the aircraft involved was fitted with a PVD, which I understand is located on the pilot's glareshield. Could someone explain what this device is for and how it works in the real world?-Lee Barberhttp://home.nc.rr.com/uniuniunium/dvasig.jpg Lee Barber - Rochester, NY PPL-G
September 2, 200619 yr Dear LeeThe "Para Visual Display" is used during "Low Visibility Takeoff" to guide the pilot towards the runway centerline, the "PVD" uses the localizer signal as reference. Under "JAR" regulataions, when conducting "Low Visibility Takeoff" with an RVR/VIS less than 125m a PVD/PVI is required.Happy LandingsPalle
