B747.400 PVD

Featured Replies

Hi,I bought the famous PMDG 744 from long time ago at simware. Today i read a book about airplanes accidents and one story was about a B744 who take off using the runway which was closed from the middle because of fixing some lights on the ground and repair asphalt. You can imagine what happened to the big aircraft!!!!But in the story the author speaks about PVD.The PVD technical term is: PVD is used for Take off phase at very low visibility. Very performant system which helps pilots to maintain nosewheel near the runway center line. This system works whith black diagonales and a white background on a screen. Is the 744 PMDG simulate this system? Thanks a lot.Bye.

Please ensure you sign your posts as per the forum rules. In short, no the PVD is not modelled. The incident you referred to involved a Singapore Airlines B744 (9V-SPK) flight no SQ 006 (to LAX) at Tapei Chang Kai Shek airport on 31 Oct 2000 at 2317L.The flight was taking off in appalling wx conditions as typhoon 'Xangsane' prevailed. At the time of the accident heavy rain had reduced visibility to 800m. The flightcrew attempted to take off from RWY 05R...which was partially closed for maintenance. The a/c struck concrete barriers & construction eqpt.Sadly 4 cabin crew members & 79 passengers were killed...4 cabin crew members & 35 passengers received serious injuries. The a/c was completely destroyed by the collision forces & post accident fire. I will spare you the findings but you can read a full account by checking out www//smartcockpit.com/ there is a huge section on commercial aviation safety.RegardsSteve B
