July 15, 200817 yr Author The MD11 has some flight control augmentation systems that provide SOME of the benefits of a FBW system as found in the A320. However the system is NOT FBW to my knowledge.Longitudinal Stability Augmentation System (LSAS) with series elevator actuationAutomatic Pitch Trim (autopilot and LSAS) Control Wheel Steering (CWS) with Roll Attitude HoldWhat these achieve (very basically) is that the aircraft will maintain the pitch and bank commanded if you let the control yoke go.Also there is a feature known as Speed Envelope Limiting that provides similar speed protection as found on the A320I'm hardly an authority on this subject so some of our resident MD11 experts can no-doubt expand upon and/or correct this!
