MD-11 Real OPS NAV Aid

Featured Replies

Hello!Does anybody know how the Nav aid`s are tuned for the SID and STAR in reallife? I

RW FMS automatically uses the VORs, and the IRS and the GPS. The navdata used is different, whereas we use a script text theirs are based on ARINC424 data records that ensure the correct reference to navaids. So yes, they leave the RAD/NAV on AUTO but can monitor by switching the VOR1/VOR2 displays on.

Thank you very much!

In real life, we manually tune the VORs/radials on the NAV RAD page so you are able to fly the departure raw data in case you need to do that.We also preselect an ILS frequency of the landing runway in use at the departure airport in case we need to return to the airport because of an emergency for example.

Thank you Floris! In that way I know it from the Boeing 737NG. Seems to be very simular. The Difference between B737NG and the MD-11 is that with B737NG you have to tune the Nav Aid

If both the FMC's are out of order you can select a standby NAV/RAD page on the MCDU. You are then able to tune the radio's and enter waypoints with lat/lon position.
