Mike's 757 is out

Featured Replies

For those of you that didn't notice it yet, Mike Stone released his GMax 752! I've already downloaded it and will try it tonight, no doubt!Anyone already tried it? Compined it with PIC panel? Impressions? And to make it clear, I'm not talking about the visual model, but for the flight dynamics.Fly safe,George DorkofikisAthens, GreecePS. For those interested in my 752 airfile testing, I didn't forget you guys. Real life obligations and some minor adjustments I'm doing after your comments have delayed the postage a bit... I'll send you the test airfile this weekend.

That 752 looks great. Hope the painters work quick as the liverys it came with are not very popular airlines.

Hi George,Sounds cool, will give it a try. Don't bank on the FMC being very compatible with any '75 though. You know why. By the way, according to the latest figueres from Airclaims, the back-log for B757s has reached an all-time low of just 34 airframes. Only 4 of those are for the -200 (for JMC airlines) the balance being -300s for Continental and one other operator who's name eludes me at the moment. According to "sources" Boeing are embarking on a massive sales campaign, and are even considering "produce changes" whatever that emplies. Sad thing, for Boeing, is that it does not do well in comparison to the A321, for a number of reasons. Biggest hurdle is the lack of commonality with other aircraft in the Boeing family. Sure, it's common to the B767, but then again hardly anybody orders that aircraft in deferrence to the A330 series. I do hope the Seattle boys will get something going right quick; the market needs at least two strong competitors. At the moment it seems that Boeing are only able to flog the 737NG to existing costumers and low-cost carriers. The sales of the 757/767 series have effectively stalled, the 777 is not performing too well as witnessed by the "dealy" of the -200LR and -300ER, and is under strong pressure from the new A340-500/600. About the only thing Boeing got going for them is the 747-400, but not many sales in this size anymore; it's all A380 it would seem.B777ER,Personally, I don't really give much about the liveries as long as the flight dynamics are correct. If I had to chose between a perfect looking 757 with dodgy dynamics and a "white tail" with dynamics that are spot on, I'd go for the white tail anyday. Frankly, I very rarely view the aircraft from the outside. The 767PIC is best enjoyed from inside the cockpit, in my opinion.

Disregard. I found it.Joe "High Pockets""Helicopters can't fly. They're just so ugly, the earth repels them"

TopHeavy,I agree with your last paragraph...it is so important to have a good set of flight dynamics...How many real world pilots of jet category aircraft fly from outside the plane? On a long flight, I might take a peek once in a while...I fly the PIC panel from the captain's seat!Jay

Unfortunately my enthousiasm didn't last long... I tried Mike's GMax 757 yesterday night.Appart from being wrong visually (which as I said I don't give much s.... about) it doesn't fly right at all. Of course I combined it with the PIC Panel.First, none of the radios (COM/NAV) work. I checked the Aircraft.cfg and the Radios entries seem correct. I don't know why they don't work.Second, the airfile is basically the default 734 a bit edited... This unfortunately gives totally wrong flight dynamics. To give an example, with a GW of approx 89T, on stabilized approach, the a/c was at 135KIAS, Flaps 30, gear down, thrust at about 42% N1 and a nose DOWN attitude of 6 degrees!!!! Well, all I can say is that what nobody did for the RJ85 RJ100 (!) was done by this 757!!!According to the numbers I have with this weight and speed the a/c should have a 1 degree positive attitude (the wing of the 757 is VERY effective).Well... Back to the drawing board, or in my case, back to tuning...George DorkofikisAthens, Greece.

i had the same probs as you. and it was like a super rocket it took me like 5 seconds to reach 140kts and on climb i was still climbing 3000fpm up to fl350, and on app it flew awful.http://events8.tripod.com/pilot_tag.JPG

The one thing to remember when using any 757 or 767 model. Forget about their air files and cfg files, they will not work right . With the pic panel you have got to use the pic airfile and cfg file. Im using ifdg's 757 ,ffg's 757 and mike stones and they work perfect as long as you use the pic airfile and cfg file. just remember to edit the aircraft cfg file sections pertinent to the aircraft you are using such as the flt sim 0 section the sim =section for the airfile, the contact points and the lights section, and flaps if you feel like messing with them. The rest of the aircraft cfg file is pure pic.In other words throw away the airfile and aircraft cfg file that come with these aircraft. Of course these 757's will now have all the characteristics of the 767 flight model. Basically its just a visual model swap that has the same zfw and flight model as the pic 767. Im happy enough with this as I dont think a true 757 flight model is going to be a drastic enough difference in fs2002 to make that big of a change.

Hi Wallace.I appreciate your suggestion, but that's not what most of us are looking for. The handling and performance of a 757 is very different to that of the 767. I don't care much for the visual model as long as it flies right (within the FS limitations of course). I don't actually see any gain in your way. Why would I want to use a 757 if it flies exactly like a 767?!Cheers,George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

I realize thats not exactly what your looking for but its always going to be a compromise using the pic panel with other variations of aircraft such as a 767 -200 or a 757. The truth is the 767 and the 757 dont have drasticlly different flight characteristics according to our delivery pilots, especially flying under autopilot control, Sure you feel the mass difference, and the fuel loads are different but they both use nearly identical flight control systems and the same flight control accuators for the control surfaces, the same flight control computers and the same flight management system. Yes they have different climb rates ,acceleration and roll rates but to use the pic panel with its hard coded gauges to the 767 parameters is better than the alternative. Unless the pic team develops a 757 panel I think where out of luck.
