November 13, 200223 yr Hi capt. BBall!Any news on the PIC review at frugal's world ?Anxiously waiting to read it! :=)best regards,Tero PPL(A)
November 14, 200223 yr Tero,It was finally tweaked to where I felt it was not a bunch of jibberish, and sent off to Mark last weekend. Without the screens, it was 14 pages, with them, it tipped the scales at almost 30! (I told him he was gonna hate my guts when I finally got it to him....LOL)Again, he's a rather busy bloke, so I don't know when he'll get around to formatting it and putting it up (he has my latest Logbook entry to put up first, and I sent that to him a few weeks ago :)).He usually sends me an ICQ message to tell me when he's about to put something up....when I get one, I'll post a note here.Now....on to installment number two.thanks for checking...later,BBall------------------------Capt. November 14, 200223 yr Author Hi BBall!Great to hear it's done. I hope he does put it online soon, if he doesn't, I'll be banging _your_ door for the review :)Thanks for the update.best regards,Terops. Could you please comment on the a/c attitude & flare topic I created today, there's some confusion about "stuff" (as always :)) PPL(A)
November 15, 200223 yr Mr. BB,I also look forward to your review. Please could you confirm a couple things for me when you have a moment:1 - You are using PIC767 along with the patch for FS2002?2 - You are using the updated Nav Data by Jason Barlow from October 2002 or later?3 - You have merged the Wilco 767 panel with a POSKY aircraft visual model while keeping in tact the essential sections of the Wilco Aircraft.cfg and only using a Wilco 'AIR' file? (Lee Heatherington's merge utility will do all this for you).I know you have likely been there and done this, but I thought I should ask as so many users end up with POSKY AIR files corrupting Wilco's panel and flight dynamics, or they have not installed the 2002 patch, or they are using a Wilco visual model and the frame rates are crappy, etc, etc...and all hell lets loose.Thanks.Rob.
November 15, 200223 yr Robb, you really want to put an "a" in my last name, don't you! ;-)Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 15, 200223 yr oops - sorry Lee - it's a bad habbit. Your name just sounds like it shiouod have an a in it ;-)I will try to drop it, eh ;-)Rob.

Rob,I love the term "and all hell lets loose." LOL Makes me think of a CVR tape with:Capt.: "Aw hell, there it goes again....standby with the ALL HELL LETS LOOSE checklist."F/O: "Standing by sir...":DAnyway, to answer your questions:1) yes.2) no.3) no.let me explain....When sitting down to do this "review", I was faced with more than your usual quandry regarding such things. First of all, I wrote the review from the standpoint of two prospectives....one from the "newby" that owns FS2000/FS2002 and is wondering if they would get some enjoyment out of 767 PIC, and the other from folks such as yourself...most definitely NOT a newby. I leaned a bit toward the "newby" direction, for I didn't want it to become a dissertation concerning all the different ways to "tweak" the stock program (that might very well have added another 30 pages to the original....Mark would kill me for sure :() I felt that I would "keep it simple" by using (for installment one) FS2002 along with the official patch. The only thing "non-stock" I used, it the latest FSUIPC utility to rid the controller spikes I was suffering. Like a lot flight simulations, the "added on" version (at times) barely resembles the one that tumbles out of the box....I wanted to review Wilco Publishing's effort, not necessarily the support community's work.Secondly, I personally prefer military flight sims to civilian efforts (most probably because I was raised in a military aviation family, and/or I do the "civilian" thing every time I go to work), and that means that I am by no means a guru when it comes to all the in/outs, tweaks and such for flight sims the ilk of 767 PIC (don't ask me about Falcon 4.0 SP3...that I know). I could take the time to figure it all out, but what limited time I have to spend in the flight sim world, is usually spent in the military side of the house. I haven't done the POSKY thing, and although I'm not familiar with Lee's work, I'm sure it's great. So with that in mind, the review is centered around the famous Microsoft axiom..."as real as it gets". Just how "real" is 767 Pilot In Command? From a person that straps on that cockpit once a week, I assumed that I was qualified to answer that.I hope you "veterens" of 767 PIC won't be too disappointed. I didn't mention the "support" part of the equation (heaven knows there's lots of it, and forums like this are the place to come to find that out). I did, however, throw in some thoughts about the APFGS that you guys might like....thanks again for the interest...I'll keep you guys informed,BBall--------------------------Capt. November 17, 200223 yr Hey BBall,Glad you're progressing. Have you shot any more pics from your trips?
November 17, 200223 yr Why yes, as a matter of fact here are a few that I shot from the last trip. Randy (crvm) Smith is working on those great "VFR views" for the 767/757 landing perspective panels, and he asked for some shots.here are a few: http://images.andale.com/f2/109/127/632235...00_gate_MSP.jpgAt the gate in KMSP.http://images.andale.com/f2/109/127/632235...m_final_MEM.jpgOn a 3nm (or so) final landing in KMEM (obviously the F/O's landing :D).http://images.andale.com/f2/109/127/632235...rand_canyon.jpgA great shot of the Grand Canyon climbing out of KLAS (Las Vegas) headed for KDTW.I fly a Detroit Lions charter on Saturday from Detroit to Champaign, IL....and that's just day one of the four day trip. I'll try and post up some more shots "from the road".later,BBall--------------------Capt. William "BBall" BallBoeing 757, Northwest AirlinesSenior Editorwww.frugalsworld.com
November 17, 200223 yr Just wondering if you guys noticed the "-6 " in picture 1? Lol. Best Wishes, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
November 17, 200223 yr LOL....We routinely have an RA reading of "-6" when we're on the ground. Also, we set our DH reference selector to the lowest setting the knob will turn to (FWIW, on the panels we have in our 757-200 and -300 it will read "-20", in the 767 PIC program it reads "0").you can see it in this photo I took at the gate on day in KLGA...http://images.andale.com/f2/109/127/632235...86_P8230029.jpgyou can see the DH set knob on the panel immediately below the FMC CDU.later,BBall----------------------Capt.
