November 20, 200223 yr >Doesn't XP have a different file system than ME? That would >mean that you would lose all your data. Yes AND no. Thats the beauty of XP. You can choose either Fat32 or NT file system. If you are only upgrading it will keep Fat32 so the thought that you will loose anything is funny! Best Wishes, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
November 20, 200223 yr Well the truth is that windows 2000 is a very stable system but is geared towards more of a business application operating system. For gaming I would think that xp is the new standard that game developers are focusing on. When xp was released it in fact had MORE compatibility than had Win98 at it's release. I know xp is fast but I never compared it to win 2000 as regards to FS2002 so I could not help you there. I would take a guess and say it is faster. I'm sure you could find some comparisions on the web though. Randy Randy J Smith
November 21, 200223 yr Im gonna stick with my WIN98 SE. Its really stable with all the games I run. I might upgrade to XP when I get some extra cash...who knows when thats gonna be. So for the time being, 98 SE runs great for me.
November 24, 200223 yr I've heard my friend said that if i do a Windows XP pro full installation, its very hard to format the HD if i got a big problem with it, because there's no DOS in it, so should i do an upgrade installation for my ME to XP in case i have DOS inside?
November 25, 200223 yr Well thats simply not true. I have formatted with this no problem. As for the no dos, it sure does have some type of dos as to where it differs from previous windows I don't know, but like I said, I have a dos prompt and can access through the normal way. November 25, 200223 yr Hi,Just another voice to convince you to go to Windows XP (Home in my case). When I did the installation I did quite a bit of testing and found that a Hard drive format and Installation in NTFS was by far the most successful. Granted it is a bit lengthier but in my opinion well worth it.My system has never been as reliable and stable! There is a very good article on installation at http://www.winsupersite.com/default.aspI couldn't find the exact page but if you E Mail Paul Thurrot I am sure he will point you exactly in the right direction.Best Wishes Eric
November 25, 200223 yr Thank you~ i got a full XP but after formatted my disk and ready to install the full XP, i found that i can't actually do it, it says: can not install under DOS mode....whats this means? and whats the procedure to install a full XP?because i'm not a computer expert so i installed ME than updated to XP. After installed FS2002 and 767PIC, the performance really improved! (5fps or more) BUT, left an annoying problem, when i switch the view or open a new window under PIC767, ex: looking left or right and open my FMC, i have to wait some 6~7 seconds during the view switching! i've tried the default aircrafts, and there's no problem with them. have you ever experienced this and any solutions?
November 25, 200223 yr Hi,I suspect you may have been using a W98 or ME boot up disk to commence the install, this will not work as you found out.You need to set your bios to boot up from the Cdrom as first boot up option then it will boot up from the Windows XP disk, it is designed to do this.Best WishesEric
November 25, 200223 yr >Thank you~ i got a full XP but after formatted my disk and >ready to install the full XP, i found that i can't actually >do it, it says: can not install under DOS mode Here is what you do, Go to your BIOS and make the FIRST BOOT DEVICE your CDROM. Then put in your WINXP DISK and "presto" you will have what you need to install. See whats good about this XP, you don't need a "start-up disk" the XP cd is the start-up disk. When you are fully done with installation, change back the boot device to your hard drive it is most likely IDE 0. Best Wishes, Randy Sorry did not see the other post telling this! Lol , glad to see others are aware of this.......... Randy J Smith
November 25, 200223 yr Thank you for the clear instruction!!Do you have any idea why i got delay while changing views? if i just press shift+1 and shift+2 to close the cockpit view then look left or right, there's no delay at all~~
November 25, 200223 yr It should only delay the FIRST TIME switching to the VFR panel, after that the system will cache the view so it should come up fast.Randy Randy J Smith
November 26, 200223 yr but it still happening, i found if i switch to the windows mode, there're no problem, only if i use the full screen mode would have this strange delay and the screen confusion when i press ALT and selecting the functions.
November 27, 200223 yr After uninstall & reinstall the several version of graphic drivers without luck, i then tried to adjust the hardware options in FS2002.....finally found and solved!! it seems can't accept 2X anti-alaising, i found there'll be no problem on display if i use 4X, still don't know why 2X would cause problem~~~ ANYWAY, FINALLY, back to sky. :-beerchug
November 27, 200223 yr Lol thats funny. Do you have the latest 40.72 certified Nvidia drivers in there? Randy Randy J Smith
