December 15, 200223 yr How much RAM do you have? And what kind of video card do you have? Lets assume for a moment you have 128MB of RAM and a standard video card. I'd upgrade to at least 256, or even 512MB. Then I'd go out and buy a newer video card (GFORCE or similar product) with 128MB of video memory. That would be cheaper and probably give you what you want. On the other hand, if you already have the RAM & the V. Card, and you don't mind dropping $400, I'd go for it. Personally I think 18 FPS is a great rate. I wish I had that...lol. I'm running a 1Ghz w/ 512MB & a weak video card (32MB) and I can put out around 12FPS. But for x-mas, I'll be upgrading big time!!
December 15, 200223 yr Your CPU is the MOST important as regards to FPS in FS2002. And yes going from an 1800+ to the 2600+ will make a world of differance even if you don't change you video card. The other thing you might want to do is use the fast ram availible the PC3200 mhz DDR to give it that extra jolt. Just add a GF4 46oo Ti and your in heaven! The Price seems right, just make sure it's a good MB like Asus, Abit, Soyo and your in luck. Best, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
December 15, 200223 yr Hi there i also am looking to upgrade I currently have an Athlon 1200 with 768 megs of ram and a ATI radeon 64meg video card . my question is ( and I can only afford to upgrade either the CPU or videocard NOT both!) is it better to upgrade to say an Athlon 2200 or is it better to go to a 128meg video card-which will give me the biggest performance boost in terms of frame rate (right now I get 12-22 fps depending on how dense the scenery is) appreciate any help with this.

If I were you I would go CPU for sure. The 64 meg card should do fine and with that amount of ram, you should be set. Remember, CPU is the most important when it comes to FPS at least with Fs2002. December 15, 200223 yr I am yet to install it but I just purchased a P4 2.4 Ghz, ASUS P4PE Socket 478 MB, another 512MB DDR PC2700 RAM and a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 128MB. It took quite a large chunk of money out of my pocket.I am installing the new components this week and am very anxious to see the results.Best Regards,
December 16, 200223 yr One word of caution:I really love AMD CPUs.....and I have the 2200+ xp. However, AMD seems to have a reputation for running hot. Right now, I have my case open and a fan blowing into it....that's the only way i can keep the thing below 60 deg. without spending hundreds for a liquid cooled case. So when getting a really fast AMD chip....think about heat as well.Lagaz.

December 17, 200223 yr Sounds good Richard. I recently went from a P4 1.3GHz system to the system in my sig, and have been very impressed with the results. I don't have anything "against" AMD, but I'll be sticking with Intel for many years to come.Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Senior Controller (C-3)SAN TRACON Lead ASRC (Advanced Simulated Radar Client) Beta Tester-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 30.30 Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298-----------------------------Click [link:ftp.avsim.com/library/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=&Author=Ryan+Fretwell&CatID=Root]Here to Download my American Eagle POSKY CRJ-200!
