December 19, 200223 yr OK i am new to the 767 PIC. I can get a pre-programmed flight into the computer but I cant seem to get the auto-pilot to fly it. What am i doing wrong?
December 19, 200223 yr Do you have the a/p in LNAV/VNAV mode? The FMC is complex and you really need to go throught the manual. I went through it step by step while flying the plane, I think this is the best way to get it 'sink in'.
December 19, 200223 yr A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I got my copy of 767PIC, read the panel ops guide and thought to myself - "Hey, I am an air traffic controller for 15 years now, this FMC can't be a problem to me". I jumped into my seat, took off and VOILA! I didn't have a clue what, why, who and where am I (well, I did understand the standby instruments ;-)).There is no shortcut, unless you realy don't want to enjoy 767PIC. Sit down and start ground school!sorry for the lecture, but IT IS THE BEST ANSWER, I'm sure everyone here would agree. Some other answers would be:1. maybe you didn't finish filling out init ref and pos init pages: did you get the "complete" message in the scratchpad?2. you have to activate your route and then execute when the light is on. Do you see the route in solid lines in the EHSI?3. sound silly but in order to have the autopilot(s) command the airplane, you have to press the CMD buttons of either L, C or R autopilots. you also need the disengage bar up of course.4. there are zilions more possible causes for your problem. There might be a route discontinuity, alt is not set for correct VNAV op, you are off course for first LNAV FIX after takeoff etc. try and give more info!Ilan*Edited for spelling sorry if I missed something*
December 19, 200223 yr Hey Gat,As Paul mentioned and you will hear from every other person who flies this magnificent panel, reading the manuals is required if you want to fly this plane with the FMCautopilot. Now, here are just a few reasons why the autopilot may not engage in LNAV/VNAV after you Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
December 19, 200223 yr From Ilan's post "there are zilions more possible causes for your problem" I like that part of the answer best cause it's true.No Steve, not like a novel, more like a bible because it's more a chaper and verse type of thing. SO MUCH to learn grasshopper,(no offense, really.) I learn new sh*t just about every day with this thing, even after all those hours Steve mentioned. The other day Rob (856) figured out that there was the possibility of inserting two &(*&^s in the FMC. (I promissed not to tell on him, bad I am) And I, not too long ago, used the route offset feature on a flight for the FIRST TIME.READ READ and READ the manuals, a whole lot can be found reviewing the back pages of the this forum too,, I mean a LOT.
December 20, 200223 yr Hey Mike,I did an offset not long ago on a VATSIM flight also. There were a few planes on the same airway going through a controller's sector and I was rapidly overtaking a slower aircraft at the same altitude. The controller asked me if I could slow down, change altitude or offset my route. Me, being me, said "I'll go ahead and offset" before I realized that I'd never done that before. :) I quickly pulled up the FMC manual (on the computer in .pdf format) and did a search for the word "Offset". After a few clicks, I was reading the section on how to do an offset. After a minute or to of frantic reading, I programmed the offset into the FMC and was whisking by that slow-poke to my left! :)Of course I have completely forgotten how to do it since then, but I know how to find it quickly if I need to!Regards,Steve Dra Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
December 20, 200223 yr Actually there was a post about route offset, posted by yours truely. The main route we use for domestic/southbound flights in Israel (J10) is used with offsets, except on light traffic or when dash-7's are around. To my humble knowledge, among all simulated aircrafts only the 767PIC FMC is able to fly the plane in offsets so I am unable to use offsets when controling online.Must visit VATSIM more often...Ilan
