January 11, 200323 yr Hello all,I'm actually training to fly the 767 for my airline, and this sim is a great training aid I can tell you. My question though is this - can I modify myself or use third party software - to alter various aspects of the panel to match my airline's configuration? I'd like to, for example, remove the IAS gauge, change the HSI HDG from TRK to HDG in Map Mode.I have long been a proponent of using PC sims to enhance the training experience of line pilots, and since my last aircraft the 747-400, I have frequently used my "sim at home" to practice the drills and callouts needed, with very gratifying results. Many thanks in advance, PBR.
January 11, 200323 yr Why would you want to remove the IAS gauge? As far as I know this is impossible, but removing the IAS gauge *may* be possible if you can edit panels well.
January 11, 200323 yr "Why would you want to remove the IAS gauge?"The Mach/Airspeed Indicators are basically redundant on aircraft with airspeed tapes on the EADI's. A photo was posted on the forum a few months ago showing this real life configuration ;-)Removing them saves weight, repair cost, etc. (IRL)Cheers.Ian.P.S. Sorry, no answers to the original questions, but I suspect removing the ASI wouldn't be too hard for the panel experts :-hah
January 12, 200323 yr use the text editor of your choice to comment out the airspeed gauge in the panel.cfg file located in the ".../fs2002/aircraft/767 pic wilco publishing/panel" directory.//gauge13=B767Wairspeed, 92, 224, 168then use the paint program of your choice to modify the main bitmap file called b767wforward.bmp .minor problem: when you turn on the panel lights the gauge background pops back up as it's included in the lights on bitmap. solution: don't turn on the panel lights.http://www.simpit.de/b767cockpit/files/nospeed.jpgtakes about 5 minutes. or 5 hours if you want to do a good job on the panel bitmap.pic works very well with multiple monitors on 1 pc and the aerosoft mcp so you might want to look into that as well.http://www.simpit.de/b767cockpit/current/current.jpghttp://www.aerosoft.com.au/mcp747/regards, andreas
January 12, 200323 yr Many thanks, I will be getting onto this shortly. Any ideas about changing TRK Up to HDG Up? BTW, your PC setup is superb and I will definitely be looking into getting that MCP...
January 12, 200323 yr http://www.simpit.de/b767cockpit/index.htmltrk/hdg is hardcoded and cannot be changed.
January 14, 200323 yr I could remove it with no problem whatsoever and even make the panel bitmap look decent enough so as not to tell you have removed it. Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing" Randy J Smith
January 14, 200323 yr PBR Streetgang...the name sounds familiar....reference to Apocolypse Now? I believe that was Col. Kurtz's patrol boat/team call sign...of course, the steamer in Heart of Darkness did not have a 'callsign'. The horror, the horror. I love the smell of AvGas in the morning...As for removing gauges from the panel....I find a 3M sticky note does the job quite well with the words "INOP" written on it for that real world feel. Sure beats messing about adding/removing gauges on the panel.Rob.
January 14, 200323 yr LOL, You're right, and believe me I've crewed some ships that had more inop stickers than space to stick them!
January 14, 200323 yr Adds to the fun, dont' it ;-)You've got me thinking about Apoc Now...."Did you know, man, that 'If' is the middle word in 'life', man""When they land on the moon, they don't know, man, what are they going to land on...one fifth, three eighths, they don't knowm ,man" Classic Dennis Hopper.Rob.
January 15, 200323 yr Andreas,Very nice set-up. You have given me some new ideas. I currently am using just two monitors with a Matrox Dual Card. What are you using for video cards? Also, where did you get the wall posters? I have been looking all over for some. Thanks, Steve
