Grrrr.... For my first Vatsim pic767 event, I could not finished by flight as FS2002 crashed! :-bangI was on my way from LGAV to LFPG, 20 miles before TINIL, FL380, having followed MEP282 most of the time, and every thing was ok except that for 20' last minutes before the crash, FS2002 was going on Pause mode each time a text communication was broadcasted. Is there anything I could do to prevent this to happen? Was FS2002 tired having started at 6:00am local time, or does-it happen also to you sometimes?Fs2002 eventually crashed, leaving me alone with my frustration.:'(Anyway, my flights from LCPH to LGAV and then from LGAV to ...TINIL (!!) were a lot of fun:- many thanks to Mike B. for setting up those events. I definetly will join the next one.:-wave- many thanks also to all the greek, italian, french controllers who were very forgiving each time I requested them to repeat.:-kewl- no thanks for Bill (for my FS2002 crash!);) Bien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011

You are not alone my friend, 3 gid faults, explorer faults, and the blue wall of death. 4 log back on's.But yes a big thanks atc and all others for the event. and to think they have computers flying aircraft!!!.Not mine thank god.

You are not alone. Was in MILAN airspace when my PC crashed, had UAL400 right behind me all the way from GREECE

Hi Michel,I think we've all experienced the frustrations of random FS crashes. Perhaps you aare already using this, but if not you should download and install AutoSave from Pete Dowson's web page. This little module will automatically save your flight every X minutes as you fly. I have mine set to save every 5 minutes so that if I have a FS hangup or crash to desktop I can pick up virtually where I left off and resume my flight. It has saved my bacon more than once. Here is the linkhttp://www.schiratti.com/files/dowson/AutoSave.zip

Again Mike, your answers are always addressing my concerns !! Should I call you "Master" ?I knew (and then forgot) about AutoSave from Pete Dowson's without really realising how interesting or helpfull it could be. Now, I know !! and gonna download it right away.During our flights, you sent a msg about RW.avsim.net/767pic. I understand that you, guys, chat during your flights, when in cruize and when not too busy with ATC. Am I right?Assuming yes, I tried to connect on this RW server with no success.Could you light me, Master ?Bien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011

Michel,It was nice to see you taking off out of Cyprus so early in the morning.Sorry to hear that your sim crashed on you. We all hate it when that happens. Actually, while taxiing in Athens I hit a bump somewhere on taxiway Charlie that threw my nose in the air, then broke the gear and caused a CRASH in the SIM.If it were not for AutoSave I would have been REALLY ANNOYED. My advice is also to turn it on to save while you are on the ground. Not sure why your Roger Wilco could not connect to the channel. I'm not sure we were using rw.avsim.net but in any event a good idea is sometimes to type the IP address in directly. These Vatsim events are turning out to be a lot of fun.Ian Elchitz CYWGELY 301

Yes autosave is a must have. This was my first PIC event and I had a blast, made it all the way. Only had 10 or 12 holding patterns at OMAKO, but I got in just as someone reconnected in front of me. Thank God they made him go around and not me! Mike, great job and ATC and pilots all did a great job.

Michel, my first 767PIC event and frustrating but not due to FS.I am pleased to say that FS, SB & RW worked flawlessly for me, probably because I use 2 PCs for vatsim flying. All went well until reaching French airspace. A call from someone warned that the Paris SIDs & STARs for 767PIC caused the FMC to crash so I didn't bother loading them, not that I remember being given any STAR directions from ATC.FP ended at TINIL but looking at the charts saw that the final clearance looked to be hold at TRO so plugged that into the FMC, still at FL380!LFPG seemed to be overwhelmed with traffic and it took some time to get to the correct controller - BTW nice to hear a female voice on ATC :-)Was put in a hold at OMAKO, along with a number of others for what seemed like 30 minutes, finally descended to FL100 (but given about 6nm to descend 4,000ft!) and handed off to LFPG approach. After 3 attempts to get SB & RW to change channels, without any luck I baled out.Mike, thanks for all your organising, and glad I finally made an event, but now I know why I don't like heavy traffic events ;-)Hope to get some screen shots on my web site later in the week.

I could never catch up with you !I guess you had a turbo on your MD80...:-lolBien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011

Bad luck here also. I prepared this flight for hours and hours - since I didn't have the time to fly for ages (too many hours spent on VATSIM-Israel project...)It started when I took off from Paphos, and while lining up lost my internet connection. reconnected - took off, and again. It happend over 20 times during the flight! (its a cable connection 1.5mb).After taking off to LFPG, framerate dropped to 1.0. yes - 1.0 !The sim went berserk and I had to quit just before Milan Airspace, and leave workingstiff to fly alone. (I am using patch 1.3 "external hardware", so saving is a problem).alone? 2 hours later I saw him still holding southeast to CDG along with dozens of other pilots.Great ATC work all around, great organization mike!Thank you all,Ilan Jonas even posting this message is taking over 30 minutes now...

Ooops! You know what ? I just mixed up the different Mike: Mike (CYQY) and Mike B. (AAL327). I thought that the previous answer was form Mike / AAL327. Anyhow, thks to both of you guys. I guess now I must call both of you "Master" with a true deference !Bien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011

Ilan,It was a pleasure having you with us; we were literally touching wings for a while. Sorry to hear you had connection problems, I kept seeing you pop up then disappear a number of times. Hopefully you'll get it corrected.Michel,Too bad about your PC crash; I can relate to your experience because my computer frequently crashed when flying online until I finally deccided to solve the problem. As was pointed out in other messages, you should use one of the available Autosave utilities. I use FSAssist 2002 from Lago; one of its functions is autosave, similar to Pete Dowson's utility. There are a number of other things you can do to reduce the likelihood of a crash too. You didn't say what kind of processor you have, but if it's an AMD with a motherboard that includes a VIA chipset, you should get the latest VIA drivers from http://www.viaarena.com/I use a program called [a href=http://www.memboost.com] MemoryBoost Pro [/a]to monitor how my computer uses resources and it often indicates when flying online that the heavy use of resources will eventually cause my computer to crash. So now when flying online I kill most of the unnecessary Windows processes to free up resources. You can find great advice on how to disable unnecessary Windows XP processes that run by default at http://members.internettrash.com/megapolon/winxptweak.html and http://www.blackviper.com/index.htmlAfter disabling the Windows Resources you can stop other background programs by using the Windows Task Manager or by using EndItAll from PC Magazine http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1935,00.asp. These techniques have made a huge difference for me. I used to start with 56 percent resources available and eventually crash. Now, simply by turning off my firewall, antivirus, and a bunch of other utilities I don't need when flying online, I now have over 80 percent resources available and my computer rarely crashes now.I now run FSRealTime, ServInfo, ActiveSky wxRE or FS Meteo, FS2002, FSNavigator, Squawkbox, Roger Wilco or TeamSpeak, and JeppView all at the same time without experiencing crashes. I try not to open e-mail or surf the Web while flying since I've found those to drain resources.

Sound like you guys had alot of fun. Would loved to have joined you on my first PIC Vatsim Event but due to other commitments I was away for most of the day. Will have to make sure I get in on the next one. Nate S.

On C?... Get me the engineers! Heads will roll off!Ok, took care of that...Were you by any chance flying Posky763 merge and had your landing lights on ????????????George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Hey Vulcan,I had no CDG FMC STAR Problems - but then I spent Saturday programming mine by hand -;)I was left high at TRO as well, FL380 and had to descend while in the hold to FL160. I think the Centre controller was getting swamped because he kept asking myself and Ernie Alston how long we could hold for.Tower and Approach were just as interesting - they wanted 220knots down final approach.Would have been better if the Vatsim UK event guys were getting vectors to the northerly runways.Mark
