Spoiler not Armed !

Featured Replies

Hi,When I try to Arm the Spoiler (Shift+ / ) I get Spoiler 100% Deployed and not armed.Any idea ?Thanks,Ulisses

Bring up the peddlestool and move it manually to "ARM".Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing"AMD XP 2100 |MUNCHKIN 512 DDR RAM |ECS[/b ] K7S5A MB |[b]GF3 64 MEG |WIN XP PRO |MITSUBISHI DIAMOND PLUS 91 19"

How do you know it is armed ????I'd like to know why it is not armed. Thanks,Ulisses

When are you trying to arm it? On the ground or in the air?If you're trying to arm it on the ground with both thrust levers in idle, it will deploy immediately as that's what it's supposed to...RegardsMark

>How do you know it is armed ???? >>I'd like to know why it is not armed. >>Thanks, >Ulisses You know they are armed when you move the lever to the ARM position. Do a quick landing without the reversers and from spot view, see if they deploy. They will not deploy if not armed and no reversers are used. I don't think there is any ECAS message showing you that they are armed, only when they are not down if I remember correctly. Best Wishes,Randy J. Thanks Mark,You are right, I was trying to ARM the spoiler on ground :(It's working, my fault. Thanks,Ulisses

Hi,Actually I think it is NOT supposed to do that, and it's an error in FS. I am making a panel for FS2002 and I have encountered the same problem. Before take-off spoilers are always armed in a real aircraft, and it would really amaze me if the pilots meant to have them at 100% up for the t/o... Correct me if I'm wrong.Just set a little throttle and arm it then, if you move throttles back to idle it should stay down. At least that's what happenend when I tested it.Kind regards,Bj

Correct me if I'm wrong. They need to be armed before T/O on airbusses, but not on boeings. During T/O they deploy, when power is removed in a RTO scenario. No need to put them in ARMED. During T/O they deploy, when power is removed in a >RTO scenario. >No need to put them in ARMED.Hi, Diederik. Are you sure? The speedbrakes on our (real) 767's only deploy in the RTO situation if the reverse thrust levers are pulled upwards. You can't activate them simply by pulling the forward thrust levers back to idle. Are you sure you're not confusing them with Autobrakes? (i.e. the landing gear brakes)If the (real) 767's spoilers are ARMed on the ground and the forward thrust levers are at idle, the speedbrakes will deploy (just as they do in PIC).Since I don't know anything about Airbusses, I'll take your word for it that the speedbrakes are armed before takeoff :-)Cheers.Ian.

hello, Ian!The only thing I knew was that the spoilers deployed during a RTO.I guessed it was when power was removed, but it could have very well been the activation of reverse thrust :)As for the airbus, I don't know anything about them either! but I remember reading something like that in a discussion. Would it not make more sense to activate the spoilers with power removal? Why doesn't the plane think "o, no power, he wants a RTO, i'll brake max and put my spoiles out" Instead now he thinks "o no power, I guess he wants a RTO, but I'm not sure i'll just brake MAX. Now he has selected R/T, now I'm sure, I'll put the spoilers up also." seems a waste of stopping distanceCheers, :-beerchugDiederik Krauwer

Another situation...You are taxing and apply lot of power to move the plane or you are aligned for takeoff and apply full power to check the engines, then when you're back to idle the spoilers are fully deployed, because no power....then you start take-off and don't see the spoilers up....quite dangerous...Ulisses

On the real 767/757 the speedbrakes will ONLY auto extend when these conditions met:1] Thrust levers at idle2] Hydraulic pressure to the gear tilt actuators3] Sensors detect airplane on the groundIf landing and with speedbrakes set to the ARM position with the above conditions, they will extend. They will also deploy when the above conditions are met WITHOUT the speedbrakes set to ARM and the reversers are engaged. And of course if you manually move them :)Best Wishes,Randy J. "...then when you're back to idle the spoilers are fully deployed, because no power....then you start take-off and don't see the spoilers up....quite dangerous..."The speedbrakes should stow as soon as you advance the throttles for takeoff, Ulisses, so it's not quite as dangerous as it seems ;-)The autospeedbrake system could be fitted with logic similar to the Autobrakes, whereby the aircraft has to reach a certain speed before the RTO logic is armed. On the 767, the autobrakes will activate only if the throttles are retarded with the aircraft's average wheelspeed greater than 85 kts. If the Autospeedbrake did have this logic, it wouldn't be activated by things like engine test runs and normal taxy speeds. Perhaps Boeing thought to not complicate things any more than they already were?Cheers.Ian.
