The best community of people I have ever come accross...

I thought this deserved special mention in it's own post...from the "Out of Action" thread:"Once again I am reminded why the people involved with this hobby are simply the best!!!!!! I got an e-mail from a fellow ex-Brit working for NavCda in Ottawa...following this thread and my whining story...he has offered me an AMD850 processor and MB for the cost of postage and will be putting it in the mail shorlty.Obviously, I am blown away by his generosity and kindness...it is tough to repay that kind of offer, but I will be sure to make it up to this kind person. If all goes well, I could be back up by next week sometime. Thanks to all who have contributed here...the virtual world really is better than the real world on most days Rob."I am still consumed by the generosity and spirit of sharing/giving that has become typical of this community. Barry, Murf, Bevvy, Shutt, Bill, and many others who have helped me out over the years and/or posted tips/help etc, etc, etc...I have made a committment to show appreciation to these people at every opportunity.THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And once again, the cat escapes the rath of ye of little faith.Good news ole sport!Whoever the came to the rescue, VERY NICE...

Great news Rob! It will be great to see you back in the virtual skies! You are quite right about this community. Unlike some other online communities where rudeness and ill-manners run rampant, people here go well beyond the call of duty to be helpful and polite. It is greatly appreciated.:-beerchug

I haven't been reading the forum much lately - and actually mentioned to 327 tonight that I had expected you and Daryl to fly in my sky for the usual late night boozed up run. This is excellent news. Hopefully my yoke is on its way back from CH because once you fly with one, it's really hard to go back to the joystick. The community and this forum *IS* one of the numerous things that makes the PIC by far the very best part of the FS world for myself.Which reminds me - seeing how it is already June - are there any tentative plans for our (soon to be annual) flight around the world?

Well done Robert! Now time for a beer at the Fox and Fiddle???What say ye?Bill

Rob,Did you figure out conclusively what was wrong with the system? I just read through your previous thread and I'm positive it's not the HD and in fact I hope you didn't do anything to harm it with the freezer thing!!! Condensation getting into the platters would not be a good thing...Any time I've had this kind of problem before in the past with my homebuilt systems it's always been the mobo or power supply. Another possibility is that the video card came unseated somehow - did you make sure to push down really hard on it into the AGP slot? I've had it happen before where it looks like it's in but it's not until it clicks or goes down into the slot a little bit more. Did you happen to notice too if your CPU fan is still spinning? If not, it may be auto heat protection kicking in and not allowing the system to start - I had that happen to me just last month actually. As some others pointed out - a HD is completely unnecessary to starting a computer up. The BIOS loads it's own routine into memory and into the video card and if you're not seeing the BIOS, that pretty much rules out a HD crash. If the HD was at play, you'd get through the POST (Power On Self Test) and then see any error like "NO SYSTEM DISK PRESENT" or "PRIMARY HDC FAILURE".On another note since you're already getting a new board and CPU - I believe I have a perfectly good 900Mhz Athlon CPU in a box up in my closet - if the extra 50Mhz would make any difference for you, I'd be happy to send it your way.Ryan
