August 25, 200322 yr I'm sorry to hear that he has since passed away. But like it or loath it, it is not considered disrespectful to speak the FACTS. This accident was due to pilot error(along with a few contributing factors). Regardless of whether the Co-pilot or captain were landing the plane... the captain still made the decsion to land, in unbelievable conditions (after a Tropical strom which would've been evident on reports from the ACARS/ATIS) aswell as being HIGH AND HOT.My point is that we were/are not disrespecting anyone by discussing the situation-please dont make it out as if we are.RegardsJohn www.bavirtual.co.uk
August 25, 200322 yr Hard to believe they let him fly again, even as a Captain! By the way what happened to F/O ?Skidbuddy from LTBA..
August 25, 200322 yr Ok then again, this guys are used to land in worst airports in same conditions, when they landed the brakes didn
August 26, 200322 yr Dodianio, I think what he's trying to point out is that just because no one died-the accident still happened. The accident was also a clear case of pilot error/misjudgement.You seem to be defending the captain by stating that the co-pilot had the controls. This means he landed the plane under the supervision of the captain. At the end of the day,the decsion came down to him and it was the wrong one which resulted in a crash.End of debate ;)RegardsJohnhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk 740Hours ;)P 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
August 26, 200322 yr This being a nonsense coservation but people reading this must know that things are not easy as Dodiano said. Remember SWA 733 overrun at Burbane? Pilot is fired. Remember Airfrance A320 Crash at Habsheim Airshow, Pilot is both fired and went to jail. List goes on with fired drunk pilot's etc. I hate to see ending of someone's carier. But I expect after such serious mistakes there must be penality for it, not an award. Now Dodiano say Cpt degraded to F/O for a while and F/O upgraded to Cpt a few years later. TACA's penality system is quite interesting, I can even say they are awarded the pilots...
August 26, 200322 yr For the record, the 767s autospeedbrake system doesn't work off of wheel-spinup. It works off of weight on wheels (truck tilting).
